Thankyou, i wish the lfs would tell you these things, my gravel is quite big and i can't see it holding the plants down, should i change my gravel for something more suitable? or just find a way to "wedge" the plants down?

haha typical inadvised / not researched enough my first first are mollies and neon tetras, i did have 2 white tipped tetras but they were bullying my others so i gave them away. I have lost a few mollies but my neons seem to be coping ok, very interesting read i love this site!

why do the mollies grow too big for a 48 liter? yes i understand the plec will grow too big but i am getting a bigger tank as soon as i find one in budget anyway, hence why i got a baby plec, is this not ok then?

ok could i keep the plecs till they r too big or is this not advisable? ideally i'd like a bigger tank but i cant afford to buy one atm, i think i'll get rid of the silver tipped tetras too and get the guppys, i wanted these originally anyway its a shame we cant keep them all though
