Ive had a look on the AC and Ebay, the cheapest twin 250W I can find so far is £100. Do you know if I'll need a supplement atinic with these Halides or are they good enough by themselves? I quite like that blue glow that most marine tanks have, am i able to acheive this with cheapo LED's off...

Dont quite know yet, but it's no good just catering for corals that require minimal lighting, because no doubt i will want something better further down the line Andy :)

My next problem is lighting! This is going to be a reef tank, but I don't quite know what lighting to get? Anybody got any suggestions? I want to buy the lights secondhand possibly (reefing on a shoestring) They need to be good on the corals and good on the old electric bill...

Well toughened glass is 5x stronger than float glass so that just means i can be 5x as rough with the panels  I do understand what your saying about float glass just cracking ect, but if it's gonna go its gonna go? You'r more likely to injure yourself with float because you are dealing...

First Venture To The Salty Side!

Yeah i can do that, i'm thinking of moving the to the middle of the tank also, so ill have two large 50mm holes then two smaller 30mm holes next to that. In this formation ---> o 0 0 o Also getting the front viewing panel in Optiwhite glass, which doesnt have the green tint that all standard...

First Venture To The Salty Side!

Cheers Ben, just been to B&Q and bought a 40mm tank connector so I can measure the hole size i'll need to get drilled in the tank base (going with durso style with weir). Ive started to draw my tank in 3D on CAD....Bored at work, so I'll try post a pic tomorrow for you all to comment on my poor...

    Apple Snail Breeding

you can actually see the penis.... check it out on this website http://www.applesnail.net/ click on anatomy down the left hand side I'd put a few fish in your tank aswell, something hardy like plattys which will create more waste for your snails to feed on. Also, do you not think snails are...

    Apple Snail Breeding

I have 25 apple snails in my tropical tank. Make sure you have a tight lid because they often crawl out of the water on to dry land to lay there eggs. you only need one snail to lay its eggs and you will have an abundance of snails. I started off with just two, and i got roughly 50 snails...

First Venture To The Salty Side!

First Venture To The Salty Side!

Right, Ive done some reading and the durso standpipe looks the best solution. I'll have a hole drilled in the top, back side corner :S The bottom of the hole will be positioned where i want my water level to be, then ill attached my 'Durso' style piping, then plumb it into the first chamber...

Thanks Ben, I had the idea that you had two pumps, one to send water from your main tank to your sump and the other to take it back? I see now that having a hole below water level takes away the need for the second pump...is that correct? Andy
