I don't shoot Nikon, but I would agree with Dave, you should check out a nice wide angle, even for portrait shots. They're not flattering close up, but can be used for really cool shots to include your subjects with them.

Whats the best way to do that? Get them young so they grow accustomed to the water as they grow, or attempt to dilute the water and slowly raise the ph up to the 'natural' level? I've never had to acclimate fish to a specific ph level before.

A little under 3ft unfortunately. Its a 30 x 12 x 18, if I had known this earlier I would have gotten a longer shorter tank instead of the standard tall dimensions. Perhaps I'll just have a get a pair or trio of cichlids with some dithers to fill the extra space.

Thanks for the advice, I came across those cookie cutter setups at one point earlier, and was hoping to build a tank using one of them, but my LFS seems to have a very poor selection of african cichlids.
