Like I was saying above, there's really no easy way to determine it was the bulb. If one goes, the whole circuit breaks down, so could have been either builb, both or neither! Thankfully, I spotted a flaw in the bulb when it tried to light up - but it only tried to light up if it was totally...

Its over 24 months old. I've got it on long term loan from my uncle about 2 years ago (actually giving him all of the money for the tank when I sell it - hence holding out for a decent price) The bulbs are the 3cm diameter ones - not the thinner type that seem to be in newer Juwel tanks...

Yeh, mentioned in the first post that I tried that. Thought the fact that the lights come on for a couple of seconds, then flicker, then go off could help someone diagnose the exact fault - Starter, bulb, unit etc

Going to take it apart and have a look tomorrow. One curious thing - its still on the timer at the moment - and the lights try to come on, flicker for a bit (about 80% intensity) before going off completely.

Simple rule of thumb for discus 10G of water per discus No less than 5 in a group 50G for 5 discus is the bare minimum. If you're buying 2" discus, you're looking at changing 25% water every other day - and that's at the absolute least - At 2", I'd recommend 25% daily, or 50% every other day...

They're fine in bags, that's not what I'm worried about. Its not worth it for me to drive for 2 hours, unless you're talking silly money.
