    After water change...

IMO water changes remove nitrates and other impurities (ammonia, nitrites) ingredients that make up most commercial fertilizers.

Is my new Tank almost cycled?

Sharky, once nitrAtes start to show your cycle is approaching the final stages. IMO, with a fishy cycle it is important to do regular water changes (no gravel cleaning) to limit the ammonia stress on your fishy friends. Best of luck!

    the joy of adding fish!

I initially purchased 6 giant danios to help cycle my tank, but these hardy fish are extremely active and seem to play an ongoing game of tag. The danios are so lively that my two keyhole cichlids now join in the fun and school and play with the danios. Way cool!!

    Ammonia

Sasha, If you are unable to get your hands on ammonia, you could try adding fish food to the water, over time the food will decompose and the by-product is ammonia. This method will take considerably longer but works just the same. I hope this helps.
