    Brown On My Dsb

In my opionon... There are a few different things that could be causing this. They are in fact diatoms, smal lillte animals that live in your aquarium. This is not a bacteria or an algae! They are not " bad for your aquarium, however they are not visually appealing! The first time we...

    My Renovation

I couldn't be happier. Yeah I still have my 2 fig 8's. I put them in a 30 long upstairs, but now that the big tank is taking so much of my time, I am trying to find someone to take them off my hands.

    My Renovation

It's a 75 gallon with a 30 gallon sump. ( I know to small for all tose fish, however I am growing the 2 tangs and rabbit out for a friend who wants them, they were too small to originally put in his tank, so when they get bigger they will be going in his 300) I am using an ehiem 1262 as a...

Lots Of Things To Ask! Also Some I.d's For You :d

I built mine out of a 30 long, and I bet for you a 55 would be just about right for that size tank. I have a compartment for my skimmer that over flows into a compartment filled with live rock rubble, down and back up past the heater, through my fuge and then into the area where the return...

    My Renovation

So I have been gone for a while. I used to be really active in the brackish forum, however back in March, I was bitten by a bug!! The saltwater bug! So over the course of the past eight months, I have changed my brackish tank to a mixed community reef. Pictures are posted below. Please feel...

    From 1.016 To 1.020

I have a 1.016 bw tank, crushed coral substrate, with Scats & Monos. I want to take the salinity level to 1.020 so that I may start using Live Sand & Live Rock. My question is this... Once I get the salinity level safely to 1.020, what would be the best way to switch out my crushed coral with...

    I would agree with that!!!

    New Tank

If you have a brackish tank already...Just duplicate the same sg and move the filter over. By moving the filter over you are skipping the cycle process, and the puffer can be added immediately. No Need To Cycle If You Move The Filter Over~!!!!

    New Tank

I would just move the filter and filter media from your old tank over to the new tank and start it as freshwater. This will almost eliminate the whole cycle process. You can acclimate the puff in right away. The fig 8 will be ok in freshwater for a month while you get the sg up. Every week you...

    Help

In theory this is true, however, I am sorry, IT IS NOT THIS EASY! There is a lot more you need to know, then just to add a little salt. Please refer to my post for more detail info on how to convert to brackish. Do you Know how to fishless cycle a tank, and how important this step is?

    Help

All of the equipment you use for freshwater can be used for a Brackish tank. There are 2 things you need to convert. Salt, and, get yourself a hydrometer. This is a device used for measuring that salinity level in the water. When going brackish you have 2 options. ALREADY ESTABLISHED AND...

What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

This brings up a good point! When a tank is heavily decorated like that, it reduces the number of fish you can keep. IMO scats and monos like open swimming space and do not need, although it makes a tank more appealing, all of that decoration. If you want to add a lot of decoration you...

    Help

Brackish Water is not freshwater and it not saltwater but is anywhere inbetween. In places where freshwater streams and rivers empty into the ocean there is usually a mixing of both. The salinity levels are influenced by many things. Large amounts of rain, no rain, tides all can change the...

    Breeding Nerite Snails

I keep Olive Nerite Snails in "BW" sg 1.014... They do in fact continue to lay eggs in "FW" and yes the eggs will hatch. My understanding from doing research is, that soon after they hatch they cannot continue to develop without medium "BW" 1.008/higher, and will shortly after die. This is...

What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

Both types have the ability to get to be the same size. There is a smaller version, however it is rarely traded, and even at the young age that most are sold almost imposssible to tell. The only easily attainable algae eater for brackish water are Olive Nerite Snails. I have 10 full grown...

    Cloudy Brackish Water?

This is definately a cycle problem!!! IMO you should never raise the sg .002 per water change. This can be harmful to the bacteria that keep the water clean. It is possible that you have cause what we call a mini cycle. You changed the sg too much for the beneficial bacteria to handle at...

What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

I think that if it were just a school of six mono and 3 scat or 2 columbians that the 4X2X2 would be fine but for 3 scat 3 sharks and 6 monos i would definately go with the 6X2X2. I think with the archers too i would bring the sg down a little more now that i think about it 1.008-1,010 would be...

What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

I think with 180 gallon tank a school of 6 monos 3 cloumbian sharks and 3 scats would be perfect I personally wouldn't add anything more! The 75 with the archers IMO would be fine, I think I would lower the sg a little bring it back to 1.012

    Olive Nerite Snails Pt 2

I received the snails the other day, drip acclimated them for an hour, and added them to my tank. They are amazing. I added 10 and they went right to work. They have removed algae from the decoration rocks plants and glass. I highly recommend them s brackish algae control.

What Fish Can I Get For A 180 Gal.brackish Tank?

The sharks and the scats will require sg1.012- full marine as adults. IMO the best tankmates that require the same water conditions would be a school of monos. I was looking in Neal's book and found the following: As per the book "Brackish Water Fishes" Written by Neale Monks It says and I...

    Are Penut Worms Dangerous?

I was looking around and this is about all I found: Sipunculans basically sit in one spot for their entire life, periodically extending their proboscis to mop up a bit of detritus or filter out organic particle from the water. These won’t chase, hurt, or otherwise try to eat you or any of the...
