Is My Tank Suitable For A Pair Of Rams?

Oh thank you :) Well they're certainly not shy. They've introduced themselves to the neons and are now exploring the rest of their new home. They seem quite amused by the bubbles. Don't worry, I'll keep on top of the water changes

Is My Tank Suitable For A Pair Of Rams?

I think we have Bolivians? Apparently the electric blue won't be in stock for another two weeks and they'll be £25 each! The ones we have look very pretty, but a lot smaller than I expected. Smaller than our 3 year old black neon, bless em

Is My Tank Suitable For A Pair Of Rams?

Other half just rang from outside the shop. He has bought a pair of 'rams' He said the label was just a generic 'rams' on the tank, so we'll see what we've got when he gets home! They did have gold rams too, and bolivian rams, but he prefered these 'rams'. His description was very...

Is My Tank Suitable For A Pair Of Rams?

Thank you :good: I'm not so hot on the water changes, admittedly, but thankfully the current fish are quite forgiving. Oh and the 2 shrimp who are very entertaining to watch! My other half is heading to the aquatics shop right now to see what they have.

Is My Tank Suitable For A Pair Of Rams?

It has been quite a while since I logged into here last! My tank has now been up and running for around 3 years, with some of the original fish still swimming. It seems to be looking a bit bare right now so I'm hoping to introduce something a little bit more special than the usual tetra. I...

    1st Dead Fishy

This morning I found my first dead fish, a bronze cory :( The tank has only been running a couple of weeks (after a fishless cycle) so as a newbie I wanted to check if I should do anything? The water seems fine with my test kit: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20 nitrate. All fish were swimming around...

    Pregnant?

I can't see a dark spot, but there is what looks like a dark line running from the centre of her belly backwards to her tail. Also her belly looks lighter than the rest of her body, as if it is stretched like a balloon. I'm just amazed at how much she has grown so quickly!

    Pregnant?

Is my platy a little fattie, or preggers? All 3, two females and one male, have always looked podgy to me since we got them (couple of weeks ago). However, one of my ladies seems to have grown a lot overnight. I'd like your verdict please... is this little lady pregnant? Apologies for...

To Name Or Not To Name That Is The Question ?

All of my shrimp are called Bob (no reason, hubbie's idea!). All the cories are called Cory (very original, huh?). The only fish that has a 'proper' name is the male honey gourami, Randy, because he flirts with the girls a lot! I can't tell the cories, neons or barbs apart, so naming them would...

    Black Neons?

I have 6 black neons in my tank. For the first day or so after adding them, they stuck together and even joined the cherry barbs in shoaling. Now they're more comfortable they just explore the tank alone. They play with each other once in a while, but they don't produce the shoal effect like I...

Centrepiece For A 2 Foot Tank

I love my trio of Honey Gourami. They're quite timid but great fun to watch. They seem to change colour when they flirt with each other, the male developing a dark blue patch on his neck. They look quite delicate. Not the most colourful type of gourami, but I love them. Also they're small (about...

    Good Algae Eater?

I have 5 amano shrimp. My bogwood has gone from filthy, covered in furry algae, to sparklingly clean in less than a week. All traces of algae have vanished from the pebbles... I highly recommend them! The little critters are also a lot of fun to watch, as well as being my clean-up squad. Very...

    Odd Water Testing Results

Hi Craig, have you tried testing your water straight from the tap? There will be a detectable level of nitrate in there, and from your readings I'm guessing it could well be around 40ppm. Also which test kit are you using? With the API liquid master test kit that I use, it's important to shake...

    Fishless Cycling + "cycle"

Yup, what rdd1952 said! You don't need to add ammonia every single day to start with, but my ammonia was processed so quickly after the first couple of days that I had to add 4ppm each evening to keep the bacteria alive. As long as it's never at 0 ammonia for more than 12 hours or so you can...

Where Can I Buy Pure Ammonia In Uk?

Couldn't find any at my local Boots/Homebase when I did my cycle, so ended u getting mine from the £1 shop. It's called Household Cleaner and Laundry Agent (or something similar) and just lists Ammonia in the ingredients (I forget what percentage). As has been mentioned before, if it foams when...

    Dwarf Puffers In Community Tank

http://www.fishforums.net/content/Oddballs...0/Dwarf-Puffer/ I don't know much about dwarf puffers, but they are not for community tanks, you were poorly advised. I'd take them back to the LFS if I were you.

    Fishless Cycling + "cycle"

I have just completed a fishless cycle on my 96l tank. I didn't use "cycle", but I did use "StressZyme" which I think is similar. I'm not sure it made much difference to be honest, so if you don't have anything yet I'd advise you to save your money. It took me about 3 weeks for the cycle to...

    Oxygenation Of Water

I can't really add to the scientific arguements for either side here, but I did notice my fishless cycle improved when I turned on the bubbles for longer every day. You can actually see the bubbles bursting at the surface and pushing air down into the water as they pop. Looking closely at the...

    My Tropical Tank

So far I've not added anything for the plants, but that's someting to look into when I visit the LFS. I plan to get a few different types of food while I'm there too. I posted a thread earlier regarding the cories wafers, as they see to be having trouble eating them straight away because the...

    Api Test Kit - Ammonia

Looks absolutely fine to me. I'd only worry if you see a green tint in there, which I don't. I use th same master kit by the way, and find you get slightly different readings in different lights (e.g. different colour if u test in from of a window in daytime, compared to under a yellowish...

    Feeding

Thanks for your help :) I've tried cooked deshelled peas (one of the honeys has poo hanging from him most of the time, so thought peas might help) all the fish, and shrimp, seem to love them! I'll keep the wafers whole from now on then, they'll just have to be more patient! Will take a look in...

    Feeding

Just a general question really: How much should I be feeding my fish? (see signature for stocking) I have a tub of Aquarian Tropical Flake, and a packet of Hikari Tropical Sinking Wafers. Upto now I've been feeding twice a day, morning and evening, with a small pinch of flake and 2-3 wafers...

    Shrimp

I have 5 amano shrimp in my community tank, they are so active! Great fun to watch. They clean everything constantly, and will eat anything, including any fish food that drops to the bottom. My Tropical Tank

Haha, Spent198 everything in the tank is real apart from the little archway thingy. The tall plants are amazon swords, I forget what the others are. So far all 5 shrimp are still intact! They're about as big as the tetra so I don't see them being eaten anytime soon, hopefully. Thanks eveyone...

    Has My Cycle Stalled?

I'd advise not adding any more ammonia. I added ammonia for the last time at about 10pm the night before I got my fish. Added fishies the next afternoon and everything was fine, tests all good. I'm pretty sure 12 hours without ammonia is fine.

    Nitrate Levels

Hi Ishy, Welcome to the forum :) First of all, it sems you havn't cycled your tank yet. Have a read of http://www.fishforums.net/content/New-to-t...shless-Cycling/ then you should understand what I mean. A lot of fish shops (LFS) advise you should leave the tank running for a week or two...

    My Tropical Tank

I do love cories, they seem to play a lot so would be fun to watch. The only thng is my gravel seems a little rough, it's small but not the smooth round kind, so I'd worry about it hurting them. However I think the LFS uses the same gravel in their tanks, so I'll definately think about having...
