I had gravel in my last tank but have since set up a tank using sand. I love it as do my pepperd corrys and plec, It is higher miantenance than gravel but it's worth it in my opinion :good:
I use coral sand in my tank and my four peppered corry's and four coolie loaches love it, the coolie's love burrying
themselves in it, helping to keep it turned over and the corrys love to hoover it..... :good:
I had no specific req to run an UGF other than to try different filtration methods.
However the information and veiws supplied by everyone was great and i have decided not to use it and stick with my internal filter alone....

I am setting up a tank with an undergravel filter however the gravel i intend to use is very fine almost sand like, Do i need to lay a layer of larger gravel onto the filter base to stop the fine gravel dropping through????
