    Oh No! Dead Fish

i'm guessing that the tank is cycled, but the cycling process and the dwarf gourami have probably led to the ich/whitespot. you should add the same amount of white spot medication again for the unchanged water. when dosing, it is best to complete a water change and then dose in the tank. what...

    Oh No! Dead Fish

whitespot is caused by stress, is your tank cycled and if so, what are the water stats? i've found snails in my tanks before, theyre harmless things and probably found it's way in to your tank from an aquatic plant. as for dosing the whitespot, you should dose for the TOTAL volume of water...

    I Think I Saved A Oscar

i'm sure grimmy had the best intentions in mind, but unfortunately chances are that would of only been a temporary tank for the oscar, which surely would have been sold soon or relocated to another tank with more space. but now you have a fish that needs a minimum to 55 gallons to even survive...

    Would This Work?

glad i could help. :good: good luck! sorry to hear about the angel, but at least now you'll know not to put them in uncycled tanks. :)

    Plants & Airstone

of course, having said that the silver sharks will still get to a large size (much bigger than his 125l tank) and that's going to create some problems in the near future. :good:

    Plants & Airstone

the airstone should be fine. :good: nothing wrong with a bit of extra aeration. the only problem i see with the stocking of your tank is that the corys prefer to be in small groups of at least 3, and the silver sharks are going to outgrow your tank pretty soon. silver (also know as bala) sharks...

    Poor Snail

my poor freshwater tropical snail went for a bit of a trip.. out of his tank. i found him on the floor about 5 feet from his tank. he must of fallen because his shell was cracked. he appears to be okay thankfully. :good: would his shell heal? or is he going to be a special snail? :hyper...

    Would This Work?

i'm only discouraging you from cycling with the bettas because they appear to be your pets. i mean, there is a high chance of some them dying and the rest being stunted if you put them in your new tank, not to mention the fact that the bettas might get fin rot too. i don't know about you but i'd...

Getting Close To Finishing My 7 Tanks

    Would This Work?

IF you swap the bettas with the angels, you'll be having the same problem. putting fish in an uncycled tank is a recipe for disaster. your best bet would be to return the angel fish, because if the ammonia doesn't kill them, it'll surely stunt their life. IF you do decide to keep the angels or...

    Amonia Nitrites

correct. cycling will be complete when ammonia and nitrIte registers at 0. no need at all for chemicals to remove the ammonia. and 25% percent a week should be more than sufficient to remove the nitrAtes. although if you tank is not that overpopulated, you would be able to get away with 25%...

    New Tank / Cycling / Stocking :)

i may have misworded my second post. i'm definitely not going to wait till one dies to start the water changes, but when i can see the ammonia is having an effect i'll know that i'll have to do it. i've recieved much conflicting advice. the lady at the fish store would flip if i told...

    New Tank / Cycling / Stocking :)

thankyou for that. :good: i've been having the water tested weekly for KH, ammonia, nitrAtes and nitrItes at my local fish store where i purchased the tank, the ammonia is around .50 :hyper: the fish store lady looked horrified when i told her i'd been doing water changes, soon as a fish dies...

    New Tank / Cycling / Stocking :)

just a quick question on cycling. i'm currently cycling a 70 litre tank with 8 platies. should i be doing water changes? or do i let the ammonia build up? i was told not to do any water changes but it's a bit confusing, if the ammonia builds up too much won't it kill my poor platies? i'm very...

    Cleaning A Gravel Vac?

The inside tubing of my gravel vac is very dirty, how would I go about cleaning it? Sorry if it's a silly question, i just want to do it the right way. :good:
  19. N

    Cloudy Water

if you agitate the gravel during the water change, all the leftover food and waste floats out from the gravel and circulates around your tank until it gets sucked up by the filter. this contributes toward cloudy water. do you have a gravel vac?

    How To Differentiate...

of course not, but they are probably considered hard when compared against the likes of livebearers. but all you need to breed neon would be a tank in which you can place the breeding pair and then remove when they have their eggs. and just make sure that light does not destroy the eggs and you...

    Heater Broken ?

thanks for help all. i'm going to stick around.

    Heater Broken ?

Nope was definitely bubbles and the water was extremely cold. Luckily my fish are very forgiving when it comes to temperatures. The light was constantly on and it never went off. I have since bought a new heater and temperature is back up to a nice 24 degrees. :good:

    Heater Broken ?

There is bubbles INSIDE the glass part of my heater and the light indicating that it is heating is constantly on, and water temperature does not change. I think the heater may be broken, or am i imagining things? Should there be bubbles inside the heater?

    Pregnant Swordtail

thanks for the reply. :good: i do agree the breeding trap will probably stress the mother out, but i think it might be hard to scoop the fry up, they are very small and the ornaments and plants might get in the way. i am considering buying some small plants to cover the bottom of the tank as...

    Pregnant Swordtail

i have 3 neon tetras, 2 swordtails and an ancistrus catfish in my 28l tank. my female swordtail is pregnant, and i have heard that tetras are notorious for eating young fry. i have a breeding trap, but i have also heard negative reviews about these traps, as they apparantely stress out the...

hello, first time poster here. i've had my 28l tank for about 2 months now, and thankfully have experienced only one death so far. :D i have 2 plants which i do not know the name of, can anybody help? i've checked around and can't find anything that looks like them. much appreciated. (click...
