Help! Need advise for tank idea

You could use slate as long as its heavy enough to stay in place. Otherwise go to a landscaping business that sells flat rock. Or just use what you can find outside. As long as its not disintegrating when scrubbed. Hot water scrub and boil if you want to be really safe. Could also use driftwood...

    Saltwater tank

Damsels, some clown fish stay small, some gobies, some angelfish. You're not going to want to stock it as full as you would have fresh water tank. Also you need to make sure that you keep up on replenishing with RO water when it evaporates. And such a small tank it's going to make a huge...

Help! Need advise for tank idea

I'd do like 12x12x4 or 6 high or maybe slightly larger. You could do 24" but then thats half you tank. Doesn't neccesarily have to be fully hidden in cave to be happy.

Water change in planted tank help!!!

Even with plants you can get algae. You have to find the balance between amount of plants, lighting, co2, and nutrients provided. Excess or lack of any will throw off balance and cause algae growth. If you're doing a lower light setup you can usually get away with fish for co2 and basic nutrient...

    Mass Extinction Event In Tank

Its possible you just released a bunch of toxins from gravel into the water when you did your waterchange. Depending on how soon you tested water the algae could be masking a problem. Feeding off of the nitrates and resulting in low readings. I'd guess with dying plants either your bulbs went...

    Cumberland Slider + Fish?

I don't know about that specific type of slider but know of others kept successfully with fish. Cichlids and rainbows..danios might work as they're pretty fast as well. It will help if you build a rock structure in setup. Place for fish to escape and can be used to create basking platform for...

    WHICH FILTER? INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL?

If you we're ever to upgrade your tank obviously more water equals more fish. Also, as stated above your filter is probably adequate and not the problem. But to answer your question external canister filters are generally better depending on use and personal preference. Imo internals take away...

    What Cichlids Should I Get

No 20 gallons doesn't really give you much more for options other than shellies or dwarf pike cichlids. Peacocks would need at least a 55 gallon

    Need Help

Pretty much any shelly will work in a 20 gal... Umm depends what you want for decor I just had rocks and shells in mine and that worked great... I wouldn't use the powerheads theres really no benefit to using them and the water in lake Tanganyika doesn't have a current so without would be more...

    Auratus

No you could definitely keep them in a species tank if you wanted to... a 55 gallons prolly the smallest tank you could house them in and you're gonna wanna overstock it to reduce they aggression levels...

    Just Thinking About

Here since nobody else could answer your questions I will... 1. are these tanks brackish at all? No they have special mineral compounds as Ferris said but they're not brackish and you don't have to add salts or any special mineral compounds to the set-up. 2. what is the best substrate...i think...

Please Can You Help Id These 8 Malawis?

Yea 5 looks like a yelow lab but the others look like hybrids of other species or uncommon species that I've never seen... stuff like that happens a lot with African Cichlids though

    20g Tank Options

Actually this happens a lot on this forum. People shoot down your ideas here saying oh no you need a 55 gallon for almost every African Cihlid, but if you go to like cichlid-forum there are people on there that have kept african cichlids in small tanks. Actually the Admin on there breed Demasoni...

    Cichlids Laying Eggs

Those are convict cichlids. They're New Worlds. You can leave them in there with the parents, setup a tank just for the parents and eggs, or take the fry when the eggs hatch and put them in a seperate tank.

    Tanganyikan Cichlids

Any of the shellies would work. A trio or foursome of CAlvus would work or some Julidochromis would work in a tank that size too. I've never kept Cyprochromis before but they would probably do better in a 55 US Gallon. Comps are a little too aggressive. JMO -Brad

    29g Stock

I'm guessing your gonna get some Africans because you have crushed coral and this raises your pH. Rams and Apistos like low to neutral pH so unless you want to change the substrate your going African. You could do maybe some Julidochromis,Leleupi, Shellies, Brichardi, Yellow Labs, Kribs, or...

    Fish_r_great's 20g Long Journal

Stargrass - Heteranthera zosterifolia I have it incorrectly planted. I got this from a close fellow hobbyist who sent it for the price of shipping and I've never seen it before but saw he had it labeled stargrass which I assumed meant it was to be planted as grass. :X Oh well I'll just have to...

    Plants Without Fish?

I would think so. Or do a lot of water changes to clean up the dead leaves and such. Some plants like water flow though such as Anubias Barterei (sp?) so you might need something.

    Yellow Spots?

1.) You probably won't want to keep them together sense one will prolly end up dead. I knew someone who tried this and his African actually killed his Oscar. 2.) Like every 2 weeks 3.) You get a syphon and drain like 25% into a bucket. You just stast sucking up some of the top level of gravel...

1.) I have a 20 Gallon Long and I am looking for a recipe for a DIY mix for the Mutrafin Kit. 2.) Where should I put the Ladder? Right now its next to my intake tube. 3.) Utricularia Graminifolia

Same to you. I found a guy on http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/ I won't be adding any to my tank for a month or so. If you get some from him (his name is AaronT) make sure you grow some extra and send me some. :D He doesn't know if he'll have any when I want some. Anyways ask around...

    Utricularia Graminifolia

An Exerpt To begin with, Utricularia graminifolia should be offered relatively low light but after the initial 6-8 weeks, where after the plants have obtained a firm hold in the aquarium, the light may be increased. At this point in time, the tiny blocks have now been transformed into a...

    Utricularia Graminifolia

Ok I just read that there is no way they can eat even baby shrimp. It said that their bladder openins are only big enough for microrganisms to enter. :good: :D :hyper: -Brad

    Utricularia Graminifolia

My guess is it eats tiny bugs, but I would try other forums where someone might have more experience with this plant. Tell me what you find out. :good: :)

    What rocks are everyone using?

Most people just find rocks outside and scrub and boil them. Limestone is great to use as it will raise your pH to a higher level that is more suitable for African Cichlids.

    Utricularia Graminifolia

Well I read on another forum that they thought the bladder was to small to eat baby shrimp, but I'm not sure maybe baby shrimp and fry. I think fish would be ok.
