it doesnt have to be expensive, have you already got the tank? I have a 10gal planted tank, sand substrate and spent £12 on selection of quick growing stem plants (aim to cover 75% of sand). With good lighting (consider upgrade to interpet 24W t5 power compact if current set up not very good...

Yep! Which is your favourite LFS? Mine's maidenhead aquatics nr taunton, dont have any dwarf puffers in last time i looked though :sad:

im in two minds as to leave the cardinals/shrimp in there as is, or make it a home for a dwarf puffer and a couple ottos. Any thoughts anyone?

took out the rubbish 11w bulb and put in a 24W interpet PC T5, much better! 8) The bulb is an interpet daylight plus bulb. Gets a bit warm but does look nice

Got 6 cardinals (a bit camera shy) and 3 amano shrimp

Use play sand and nutrafin yeast/sugar co2, couple capfuls of nutrafin plant gro a week. Did use JBL proflora kit for a while but now being used on my trigon. Seems to work so left it as is!

I did this to my ViaAqua VA-380 (38L), so smaller than yours and different make but pretty sure the hood construction is similar (see link below) To this you do need to strip out everything, and prob need to do a bit of cutting for wires etc. The interpets get fairly warm to say the least so...

Yeah get some amano shrimp and ottos in there, they love the stuff. Also I think you should have started with low light and built up to more light as the tank and plants become more established. Thats what I have done, and with shrimp have never had any form of algae over the 6 months I have...

Thats settled it then, will be getting double 36W PC unit, one in front and one in back. I may bodge a reflector on each too and mount it a few mm away from hood, will help with light output and help prevent potential warping in months to come. Probably a silly question, but does the tank look...

I have been running the ex1200 for about 3 months now on my trigon 190, and am very happy with it. Was very easy to set up, is silent and requires very little attention after set up, and is a piece of wee to prime. My water is crystal clear and as George said the clear pipework is more subtle...

I have the ex1200 in my trigon 190L and am very happy with it. Does anybody know if the spray bar can be mounter vertically with the bits you get in the box?

I will be watching this thread carefully as I will be attempting something similar with my trigon 190 later this month. I will be DIYing in some interpet PC t5's, not sure how or where yet though. Seem to be the cheapest way of getting powerful lighting under that restricive hood. Mike
