Only for laying eggs, they don't need an area out of the water though to live. They are always in the water unless they try to lay eggs, they don't go out any other time.

The eggs are easy to remove if they do lay eggs, they lay them out of the water and in my experience about 3cm long. They take 2 weeks to hatch so should be plenty of time to spot them and remove the eggs. I don't get eggs very often, only had two clutches of eggs this year. You won't become...

Yes I know that, those are cleaned weekly. I need to get inside the actual mechanics of the filter to clean inside as there's so much crap built up in there.

I have a Fluval 2 Filter than I need to clean inside as the flow has got really slow. I've taken the black top off but inside there is a red bit that says Push on it. No matter how hard I push it's not going any where! Do I need to push in a certain direction? How do I get it off?? :unsure:
