    Pico

My 5 gallon is dedicated to aiptasia and assorted invertebrates as well, believe me, they sprout up everywhere and no matter how much they get knocked around, these suckers can't be killed. I have a couple that are 3 or so inches tall now, and about 40 tiny little babies popping up everywhere...

    Pico

Here's a photo of my new pico...fit for aiptasia, which I love so much as some of you may have seen on my 5 gallon.. halfway abandoned journal (promise, I'll get more photos once they grow bigger and it's not so boring). 1 Gallon, just some LR and baby aiptasia anemones. Once it starts to...

    Can X Cause Y?

Can exposure to high amounts of high of ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrite be a primary cause of kidney failure/dropsy in fish/particularly bettas, or is dropsy more likely to happen spontaneously due to something genetic in the fish?

    5.5 Gallon :)

Anyone have any idea on if yellow button polyps would live in my tank with my current lighting? I have an 18" (10 gallon) light over the 5 gallon tank.. which means it's pretty low wattage, but it's also not very far from the bottom of the tank either. Would I need to get another light for them...

    Turbo Snail

To pull my snails off of something, I pull up a little with their shells, but then use a side of their shell to gently 'scrape' them off. It makes them hide pretty quickly inside their shells and close their little 'trap door'. With that said, I'm sure they'll be perfectly fine. Every so often...

    Petco

As everyone else has mentioned, it tends to vary store to store. At my store, we have male/female VT and male CT.

    5.5 Gallon :)

I feed mine small children.... but no. I feed mine whenever I feel like it.. sometimes frozen brine shrimp, but usually just ordinary flakes that I had leftover from my freshwater tanks. Obviously, the more food and light, the faster they'll grow, but mine aren't picky in the slightest.. that's...

    5.5 Gallon :)

My tank hovers around 72-80 depending on whether the owners of this house decide to put the AC on during the day or not. I'd think the biggest concern would be water movement?

    5.5 Gallon :)

Whole tank closer up. Side view.. I really need to clean my glass, inside and out Oh, so makeshift :) Unidentified creature thing... any ideas? It actively reaches out and 'searches' for food, rather than waiting for something to drift by like an anemone. Hubert, the trusty turbo...

    5.5 Gallon :)

Well.. rearranged the rocks a bit.. weren't too stable before, or as aesthetically pleasing as now. The little anemones are growing at an exponential rate it seems. Yesterday I bought a 'reef sun' light.. was just on an ordinary bulb before (10 gallon light just resting on a 5 gallon tank...

    5.5 Gallon :)

I appreciate the advice, but really.. this is an Aiptasia tank on purpose. I don't have any intention of keeping anything but the aiptasia and the crabs/snails that I have right now. My crabs and snails both go head on into the things and don't get hurt, so I haven't had a reason to worry yet...

    5.5 Gallon :)

This thing is exceptionally easy.. and I'm having plenty of fun just watching the creatures coming from the rocks.. what I love is how much diversity there still is just in the same rocks I've had for months.. things just appear out of seemingly nowhere. I have actually resisted buying...

One of the other bigger two (Velcro Balboa.. ..don't ask)... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60025430/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60025660/ Unkown orange creature in my tank.. the body is stationary, though must be attached deep inside the rock because these tentacles poke...

    5.5 Gallon :)

Not a pest if that's what you're aiming for :) I don't ever plan to have fish in this thing because it's just too much maintenance. I turn on my light.. make sure the power head is still going.. clean it every so often, and they're fine. So long as there is stuff growing from the light, I'm...

    5.5 Gallon :)

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60020622/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/60020752/ So quite a while ago, I noticed one tiny little Aiptasia in my tank... I let it grow, and now he's turning into a beast. It's a fishless (and will remain so) tank.. 3 hermit crabs, 2 turbo snails, and...

I Just Keep Going Back :)

Puffers are still my absolute favourite fish, but for freshwater, Bettas are probably my favourite. Both just have such personality, and are so inquisitive about everything.

I Just Keep Going Back :)

I ventured into saltwater and ended up taking apart my brackish and freshwater tanks. Part of me just can't resist a betta. It's just so difficult. They have such spunk and personality! So... I have a new red male. I've never had a red betta before, and he's beautiful. I've always had...

    5.5 Gallon

I have started to take a liking to Hank, my friendly briste worm. He lives in the purle-ish piece of live rock towards the middle-left of the tank (eeerr... my photo needs to be mirrored actually... I'll update with a better picture perhaps tonight or tomorrow). I also finally have a name for a...

    This Is For You...

My 5 gallon has cost me about 85$ so far.. but I also just have LR, 3 hermits, 2 turbos, cheap crushed coral substrate, a tiny powerhead... no hood, and a cheapo light a stole from one of my 10 gallons I took apart.

    5.5 Gallon

So.. I have a tiny powder-blue colored hermit that has been piggy-backing on my scarlet hermit going on 24 hours now... I haven't seen him eat anything.. he's just been getting carried around by the scarlet for the last day. Is there any reason for this, or is he holding on just for fun? Should...

    5.5 Gallon

Found what looks like a tiny brittle star today.. it's orange (darker toward center, and tips of arms turn yellow). It's been crawling around this one rock for a while now. I've also found some more feather duster worms, another stomatella snail. The anemone-thing is still name-less, but is...

Hmmm.. I haven't ever noticed any shells for sail before.. maybe I'll have to look closer.

    Hermit Growth?

So... how do you go about providing shells for a growing hermit crab? Not too worried about the guys I have now.. still all seem to fit their shells.. but how do you make sure they have a new home to move into?

    5.5 Gallon

Thanks for the input :) I'm pretty sure I'm sticking to crabs and snails.. mostly because the tank is already so low maintanence.. don't need to add any more. I'll let whatever is on my LR grow.. just to make it look cool. Edit: There's a feather duster worm on the shell of one of my crabs...

    5.5 Gallon

So.. my tank survived spring break. I went ahead and added crabs and snails.. and they are doing just great .... considering I don't think my light got turned off for the entire week, and there are diatoms everywhere. Against the opinion of many people in the invert section, I left this little...

    Aiptasia..

Chances of it killing a clown goby? A brittle star?

    5.5 Gallon

Okay, so my nitrites are now at zero, my nitrates about 40, amonia at 0.5, and my pH has gone down to a steady 7.8 (I'd like it higher.. could this be due to my crushed coral/shell substrate?). My problem is that I know that because of the progress the tank has made over the last few days...

    Aiptasia..

I have a 5 gallon nano with a 10 gallon normal flourescent hood resting on top. I'm in college, and this is about as low-tech for saltwater as one can go. There will be no other corals, just a brittle star fish, and possibly a clown goby. (with a small cleanup crew of a couple hermits and...

    Aiptasia..

If they are generally harmless, aside from aesthetic purposes, would it be fine to leave them in my tank? I may or may not have aiptasia - I have 3 little hydroid creatures.. one of which has the brownish tint I hear of when reading about aiptasia, but the other two are milky-white and...

    Aiptasia..

If you have a fish only tank (in my case, potentially a single clown goby and a brittle star), what makes aiptasia so horrible? Is it only considered horrible around other anemones or corals? I have found a ton of info about how to get rid of Aiptasia, and I can see how they could cause...

    5.5 Gallon

I think George is a stomatella. Are these guys okay to keep? It's still impossible for me to tell if these little white bug-things are what you gave me a photo of.. they're just so tiny! There was one larger one that looked like a Copepod, but none of the others have such long antenae, nor...

    5.5 Gallon

There's the picture of my new 5.5 nano. Still waiting for it to fully cycle. The photo quality is horrible because it was taken with my laptop's camera. I'm planning on stalking with a brittle star and a clown coby of some sort (along with a couple snails and hermits of course), to keep it...

    Should Lfs Stay Open Later.

My LFS of choice closes at 8:00 M-F and until 6 on the weekend. I've never really had a problem.. they also have at least 5 cars waiting out front every day for them to open (the freshwater section isn't much larger than a dorm room). petco is also open until 9:00 (week + Sat) and 7 (sunday)

    Id For Hydra-thing?

Unfortunately, I can't get a photo, because this thing is about 1mm tall, and each of it's arms only a tiny bit longer. It is milky-transparent. The first word that comes to mind is a 'hydra' but I honestly have no idea what this thing is. It's catching something in my tank, as I have watched...

Gymnothorax Tile - Acclimation To Marine?

Awesome, thanks :) I plan on selling him soon to my LFS, and they only ever have 1 brackish tank set up at a time - usually with some puffers or small scats. They have a decent sized saltwater (almost as large as their freshwater). Since I didn't want him to be sold as freshwater to some unwary...
