My fish get live treats, I'm not adverse to that! I just prefer not to eat the meat myself.... plus I'm sure the bloodworms had a better life than a chicken in a battery cage :sick: How did this topic turn into this?! hee hee.

Erm, I hate to say it, but eating meat/fish is cruel... just look at the farming practices used these days. :( Proud to be a veggie! :D

Thanks everyone! I think I will do a nitrate test on the tap water to be sure. I was just a bit worried because when I bought some fish recently I did a nitrate test on the water they came in, and it was 0ppm... very helpful advice :D

I feel so sorry for fish that have outgrown their tanks and their owners are too selfish to take notice. I don't think there is any real solution, other than proper education to prevent people buying fish they can;t handle in the first place. If the worst comes to the worst, the kindest option...

I kept a betta in a community aquarium successfully with a few guppies as well as other fish. They never fought, but I understand this can depend on the personality of the individual betta, and whether it thinks the guppies are fellow bettas or not! I think it just varies from fish to fish...
