    Tetra With Something On Fins

Hmm that's interesting thanks Wilder. I'm not sure if it is that but it could be - it does say that the virus only effects the hostfish or some additional closely related fish so I guess it could effect more than one lemon tetra. Doesn't sound like there's much I can do about it though so I'll...

    Tetra With Something On Fins

I'd say they look like growths rather than just black marks. I haven't noticed any flicking or rubbing. The tank is 240 litres - 9 lemon tetras, 12 cardinals, 1 platy, 6 corys, 2 SAE, 3 Ottos. No Ammonia or nitrite, nitrate is 10 and pH 7.

    Tetra With Something On Fins

Hi Wilder. They are very dark grey/back marks. Hard to see what the texture is but it does stick out from the fins. As I said the fish don't seem bothered by it at the moment but it does seem to be spreading to the other lemon tetras. That's the best picture we could manage I'm afraid.

    Tetra With Something On Fins

We've had them for about 18 months and their tail fins have always been clear so I don't think it's part of their colouring unfortunately.

    Tetra With Something On Fins

Hi - a few weeks ago we noticed that one of our lemon tetras has some dark marks on it's tail and dorsal fin. Some of the other lemon tetras have now also got a small amount of this. We went to the LFS and described the markings and they gave us some Interpet Anti-Internal Bacteria to try. We...

Help! New Lights With Lots Of Algae

We have the following setup that has been running since September last year, we did have blue/green algae a few weeks after the initial setup and were advised to carry out a 3 day blackout and reduce the phosphate using Rowaphos (phosphate was at 5). This did work and we had good plant growth...

    Replacing Fluval 305

Thanks Rabbut. Tetratec is one I was considering as I have heard good things about them. I guess we would have to go for one with a higher flow rate and capacity than the 305 otherwise I don't see how it would be any different. Just another question - does it matter where the input and output...

    Replacing Fluval 305

Well it's just a hum really - we've sort of got used to it but I have read that other filters like the Tetratec are pretty much silent. We have the polishing pads in the filter and it looked okay but we've just fitted some T5 lights to replace the T8s and you can see so much more how unclear...

    Replacing Fluval 305

Hi We have a Fluval Roma 240 which came with a Fluval 305 filter - we have had this running since August last year. The water in the tank is usually quite cloudy and the filter can be pretty noisy so were thinking about replacing the filter with possibly an Eheim 2026. Would this be worth it...

    Changing Initial Planting

Thanks for the reply Andy. We're not planning a total change just to swap out some of the fast growing plants. Now comes the hard bit - deciding which plants we want!! :fun:

    Changing Initial Planting

Thanks for the advice! How is the best way to remove an Amazon Sword which is likely to have big roots - can you cut it in the same way? We will try and do it stages so hopefully it will be okay. Now we just have to decide which plants we want - not very easy as I'm not very good at design...

    Changing Initial Planting

Hi - we've had our first planted tank set up since August with lots of fast growing plants (H polysperma, R rotaundifolia, Hydrocotyle leucocephala, Limnophila sessiliflora, Ceratopteris thalictroides, some Bacopa and Cabomba, along with Crypts, Amazon swords and Java moss). This has mainly...

    Tetra With Fungus

Thanks we'll try that - will probably run out of the Pimafix but hopefully it will last till we can get some more at the weekend! So it is that there is a bacterial problem which then allows the fungus to grow which is why you recommend using the bacterial and the fungal treatments?

    Tetra With Fungus

Hi I noticed yesterday that one of my lemon tetras has what looks like to be some sort of fungus on it's side (or is it bacterial?). It could be as a result of a disagreement with another tetra - it doesn't seem to be bothering him as he's still chasing the others round the tank. It's a...

    New Angelfish - 1 Dead, 1 Sick

We are actually adding CO2 to the tank as it is planted but it has been stable for a couple of weeks before we added the original fish. I think it might be that they were just not in great condition and so were stressed by the change - I also wonder if maybe they were stunted in some way which...

    New Angelfish - 1 Dead, 1 Sick

We're not using anything but there is quite alot of surface movement from the filter outlet - the other fish don't seem to be having a problem with it. The remaining one looks fine - not gasping and he's eating well - always the first to the front of the tank when I go up to it! I hope he's...

    New Angelfish - 1 Dead, 1 Sick

The poor little stripy Angel died last night. At the moment the remaining larger one (we have named Gabe) looks okay and is eating healthily so fingers crossed. Is it okay to keep just one Angelfish? I'd still like to know what was wrong with them though.

    New Angelfish - 1 Dead, 1 Sick

Yes I did think of that but as you said I would have expected the other fish to be having problems too. The small stripy Angel did come out from hiding last night when I fed them but he didn't eat anything and is gasping alot - he's not hanging around at the top of the tank or anything just...

    New Angelfish - 1 Dead, 1 Sick

Hi I wondered if anyone could help me please? First some background - have a 240l tank set up with live plants since July. We added the fish which were in our old tank about a month ago - 5 Lemon Tetras, 4 Ottos, 2 Platies and 6 Bandit Cories. Everything was going well so we decided to get a...

Black Out To Kill Blue Green Algae

I tested it quite a few times sometimes bashing the B solution on a table to shake it up more and it always showed 10! I did put some of my KNO3 solution in there with some water and tested again just to make sure it didn't just always go to the 10 colour but it shot up to the highest level...

Black Out To Kill Blue Green Algae

We had a problem with BGA growing on our java moss so did a 3 day blackout a couple of weeks ago. We hadn't been using CO2 or ferts and had planned to start CO2 when the blackout ended but due to issues with the kit we won't be starting it till this weekend. The BGA was gone when we uncovered...

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

We checked for leaks around the bottle and found none so took the tubing out and put into water and found that there was some leaking from the non return valve. On closer look the plastic is split. Think we're going to send the kit back to Aquatics Online. Is there any difference between the...

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

http://www.jbl.de/factmanager/frame_page.p...pe=2&Id=137 It's this one here if the link works!! So Barney yours went straight from 65 odd to zero? Ours started at about 50 and has been going down steadily since when it's been on and is now 15. Dave - I didn't see your post when I first posted...

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

Thanks Barney. I'm hoping it's not really almost run out and the gauge is wrong! We just have the diffuser it came with which is supposed to be a bubble counter too - we have found it's difficult to adjust because of that reason (plus it's new so occasionally the bubbles get stuck and come up...

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

That's pretty much what we did but the high pressure gauge is alreay down to 20 from 50 after 24 hours use! What is your low pressure gauge set to? Have you found it difficult to get the pressure right - we have found that it's tricky to get fewer bubbles as it just turns it off!

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

Thanks for reply. Fortunately there are no fish in the tank yet! According to hubby (who was the one who set it up) both were on 0 before connecting to the bottle and when he tightened it onto the bottle the HP went to 50 and the LP to 3 and bubbles came out immediately. It's now on 2.5 and...

New Jbl Pressurised Co2 Kit Question

Hi We bought a JBL Set Easy 2 and received it at the weekend (purchased before reading someone on here say they were crap!) Anyway we set it up on Sunday night as per the instructions - when we tightened the valve onto the bottle the high pressure gauge went to 50 and the low...

    Which Co2 Pressurised Kit?

Thanks for replies. I think we're going to go for the JBL Easy Set 2. How long should the CO2 last on a 240l tank? How can I work it out?

    Which Co2 Pressurised Kit?

Hi we've been looking into getting a pressurised CO2 kit for our 240l planted tank. We're considering either the D&D set or the JBL Easy Set 2 or the JBL ProFlora Set 2. The JBL ones are more money but come with a permanent CO2 test and two gauges whereas the D&D one only has one. All have a...

    Algae On Java Moss

I have been doing my reading on BGA as we still have a problem with it and it seems to be getting worse. There is also quite a bit of brown algae and some sort of fluffy algae on some of the leaves. We have ordered a CO2 kit and have planted some more fast gowing plants at the weekend...

    Algae On Java Moss

Garuf - yes it looks like your pic on your thread. So a blackout is the way to go then. What did you cover yours with - a blanket or bin bags or something? Someone posted that it can be due to low nitrates. At the moment there are no fish in there so once I add them there should be...

    Algae On Java Moss

Okay thanks - I'd say it's about 50%. It will be a bit more when we cut the Hygro back though. We probably need a bit more in the front as that is largely sand and a couple of E tenellus and some L novae-zelandiae which aren't doing so well and seem to have some other sort of algae on them at...

    Algae On Java Moss

Thanks so you think it sounds like it could be thread algae? I shall try and get a pic tonight. The tank has about 1cm of Tropica Substrate but no other fertilisers have been added. We're not adding ammonia at the moment - we were thinking that as we have a tank already set up that we don't...

    Algae On Java Moss

Hi I have an algae question if anyone can help please? First some background info. We set up our first planted tank last weekend - it's 240 litres (63 US gallons) and will be an upgrade from our 70 litre (non-planted) tank. The lights are 1.3WPG and have been on for about 12 hours a day and...

High Ph Swing In New Planted Tank

Hi the pH has gone up not down! I think it's the rock - rather stupidly I didn't check it with vinegar before putting it as I thought it was slate (or granite) and I rather naively thought the LFS would warn us about the rock but we checked it this evening and it was fizzing a little. We have...

High Ph Swing In New Planted Tank

Hi - we set up a new planted tank yesterday. I checked the pH when I got in from work only to find it's gone up to about 8.2. I have tested the tap water and that is at 7.4. The substrate used is Tropica substrate with a layer of silica sand and some gravel from our other tank. We have some...
