I'm feeding the Queen Arabesque pieces of prawn and algae wafers. Seems to love them.

Yeah I've got no plans to get a female. I've never had a problem before keeping a betta and cardinals in the same tank.

The Camera is a Canon EOD350D. There is no lid and yes there is always a risk of fish jumping. And the water level is about 1mm from the top of the glass, it really is full to the brim! But when it was setup as a marine tank nothing jumped out and in my experience marine fish tend to be more...

I already have the light fitting though, so cost wise it would just be about £35 for the 5,200k bulb and the cost of CO2 (which I plan on adding anyway).

Sinice I have a 150W Arcadia Mini Pendant from when my tank was setup as a marine tank, would a 5,200k 150W Halide be too much light for an 80 litre 18" cube (22 US gallons)? I know it will be on the bright side and I will clearly need CO2, but would it just be too much? Thanks in advance :good:

Well today I added 10 Cardinal Tetras and a Queen Arabesque Pleco (L-260). All settled in fine.

It didn't seem to bother the marine fish, and I cant say the Betta looks bothered at all. That said, I would not keep Discus in the tank for this reason (and that at 19 gallons it's too small for discus!)

I have to admit I'm a bit of a planted tank virgin! But I would like some bogwood with Java Moss growing on it and a couple of small leaved species growing in the midground and something like Marsilea quadrifolia growing in the foreground. Still playing with ideas though.

So is RO too pure to use on it's own? Is it best to mix it with tap water and if so in what proportions. Or can you buy an additive to add to pure RO water to make it perfect for fish such as cardinal tetras?

As I'm switching my tank from marine to freshwater tropical, I have a RO unit. Is the use of RO water recommended? I would expect it's too pure to use on it's own, so can it be safely used in say a 80% RO/20% tap water mix etc?

Can you put a smaller lamp in a metal halide lamp into a bigger unit? I would like to put a Arcadia Freshwater 70W 5,200K into an Arcadia 150W series 3 pendant. Will it work or go bang?

The RO unit dosent go in your cabinet. I've got mine under the kitchen sink. IIRC mine was around £75

IMO a RO unit is a must for marine. Firstly it's kinder to the fish as while they will tolerate nirtates etc, they dont like it. Secondly if you use tap water you will have big problems with algae. You dont have to remove the Juwel filter, just dont use it for biological filtration - let...

thats a good bet. You should only need 30kg of live rock and add to that a skimmer.

I would remove the Juwel filter, and only use the Eheim for mechanical and chemical filtration. You want your live rock to do all your biological filtration. You dont need a skimmer. I'm running my 100 litre reef with JUST liverock for filtration and weekly 15%-20% waterchanges. Just be...
