i'm not sure, read up about brown algae and it sounds about right, the tank is not established (no fish), we are in the 3rd month running it in. I can't find any pictures on-line that look like what I have though or how to get rid of it. hmmmm :/

I have a water softner under my sink...no room! The RO unit doesn't need to be attached to the tank in anyway?? Do you just run tap water through it and it gives you RO the other end?? Sorry if I am being REALLY DIM :blush:

RO unit now...hmmm, had a quick look these range from £10 to hundreds. I think I need a BIG BOOK :crazy: What type of unit would I need for my tank? Fish...what are they????? Do they sell sea yet??? I have no room in the cabinet for RO unit and Skimmer!

I don't want to remove the internal filter, it's taking up room inside so I may as well use it (plus I paid for it), isn't it good to have 2 filters?. I have things like my carbon in there so it's easy to replace when I need to. Do I need to use RO when i'm doing my water changes? To be honest...

That's for up to 400Litres, surely I can get a good one for my little 180litre? Does the plastic tube have to go at the back?? The tank is against a wall and I wont be able to fit anything other than a bendy pipe tube down behind it.

Any reccomendations on skimmers? Is it a case of the more you spend the better it is?

Ok...done...although I don't think he's going to remain friends with me ;) All the Lava Rock is out, i'll take out the large piece of artificial rock soon. Already tapped up the LFS to swap it for loads of Live Rock (and then some more). So hopefully the tank will look marine soon instead...

Thanks for the reply SkiFletch, but the levels of ammonia have gone way high again, I have no nitrite (But I guess it'll come)! Going away at christmas so we aren't going to get anything untill we come back. Also the tank looks nothing like a marine tank...so all artificiall stuff comming out...

No they don't eat it, but aparantly they will break it off (i'm only going on what i've been told here), they sharpen their teeth on it. Anyway I have been advised that they wont touch the soft coral (which I'm going to get). Help!

I had been advised not to keep live coral and other inverts because of the type of fish I want (trigger especially), but after some thought I want some soft coral on my live rock as it looks great. Not ready for anything yet though as my water is doing it's stuff!
