    crabs

The rainbows are also a definite no im afraid. They are land crabs and prefer to spend most of their time in-land rather than in the water. Chris

    new fish tank

WOW, your fish look really nice. Goldfish are so underrated with al;l the comotion focused on tropicals these days. They have so much character. I had some in an aquarium for about seven years, but as the tanks kept growing along with the fish, my budget began to increase with it. Eventually...

    Hard to find

I have been doing a lot of reading on killies the last few weeks, but cannot find any in my lfs's. After what ive read i cant understand it. Some of them are very easy to keep and breed, but what puzzles me is the fact that you can dry out their eggs for about six months, which by comparison are...

    Live food

I have read quite recently that wingless or flightles fruit flies can make a good live food. Fruit flies are only a couple of millimeters long and due to their simple amount of chromasomes can be bred with unusual features like twisted wings very easily. I have seen these in the shops for small...

    Hatching brine shrimp

I use a 1 litre plastic coke bottle, an airline (with no airstone, the eggs stick to the bubbles and pop at the surface where they stick on the side and dry out), about four and a half teaspoons of aquarium salt and two pinches of eggs. 24 - 48 hours later-millions of baby brine shrimp. Coffee...

    hairy algae while cycling?!

I have got hair algae running riot in my aquarium at the moment. I used a resin to remove nitrates and it didnt seem to touch it. I decided after to buy a phosphate kit and found they were way too high. I added a phosphate sponge and the algae is slowly showing signs of dying off-so check...

I just lost all my Tetras

You say you just moved so definitely check that your tank has matured enough for the fish to be added again-do an ammonia and nitrite test. You sound as if you want to strip the tank and clean all of the equipment, which in theory is not a bad idea as long as you have another home for the...

    My tank

This is the Keyhole cichlid who lost its partner about six months ago. It seems a lot happier. When they werent trying to breed they were constantly fighting! Its a lot more outgoing and friendly now, but boy does it have an appetite.

Here is one of the Koi Angelfish (the female). Both of them recently spawned although all of the eggs were eaten by others before i could collect them.

    New Betta

Well the little chap is home and happy. He has filled up nicely on live brine shrimp and daphnia and eagerly checking out all of his surroundings. The jar is designed for bettas and seems to hold a fair amount of water (i havent yet converted to gallons but its about two litres). He is so nice...

    Apologies

Sorry about all of the posts, my computer decided to crash and post the same topic loads of times before it finally died. Sorry-my bad.

    New Betta

I have been reading all of your posts on the fighting fish and unfortunately have caught the bug. My lfs has just got a load of new crowntails in and i have reserved one. It has a cream coloured body with dark freckles and torquoise fins. They are all kept in large jars which i am purchasing too...

    Hair Algae

I have got some hair algae growing on the plants in my tank, does anyone know what causes it or how to get rid of it without an algicide. It looks disgusting, but i dont seem to have any problems with other types of algae. Even the otto wont eat it. Cheers Chris

    Plants Online?

Green line are definitely the best. I have used them loads of times and i have never had any problems and the plants are top quality. Java are not far behind but the selection is much smaller. :D

    Carnivorous Plants

I have a large collection of carnivorous plants in my greenhouse (my other hobby to fish) and there are a few aquatic ones. They are called bladderworts (Latin Utricularia) and they look similar to hornwort in growth but have small bladders along the stem which open at lightening speeds to eat...

    R.O units

I am considering getting an R.O unit to mix with my tap water when doing water changes for my community tank. However, i dont really know a lot about their use and how to keep them. I have recently read that you can buy hose adaptors for some of them and attatch it to a hose pipe which sounds a...

    filters for bettas

Cheers everyone, that really helps. I think ill look into getting one of those all in one tanks that contain a small filter and light and purchase a heater for it. Thatll save on plugs too which are becoming a rare thing in my house. Thanx again Chris

    filters for bettas

Does anybody use a filter for their betta tanks. Ive heard they are really not necessary as long as you do regular water changes. The only thing that worries me about it is the lack of water flow around the heater and cold spots (and hot spots) appearing. Anyone got any tips or advice. I dont...

    carbon

This has probably appeared on here loads of times, but how long should i keep carbon in the tank for. At the moment i only keep it in the tank for about two days. I like to use it about once a month just in case any nasties have found their way into the water without me knowing, and then topping...

So tell me, who's got crabs?

I have a rainbow crab. It has a bright blue body, red legs and sort of pink claws and is gorgeous. They are sold in aquatic shops quite commonly now and are kept in large tanks of water with many others. This is however wrong. Rainbows are land crabs and should have more access to land than...

Film on the surface of the water

I quite often get this film as well and have no idea what causes it. I do regular water changes which seems to remove it, only to find the next morning its returned. I have read of others having it in PFK magazine. The advice was that if it doesnt hurt anything dont worry. It could be a...

I have been keeping fish for about eight years although only seriously for about four. I have a 125 litre tank which...
