    Breeding Shrimp

I think cherry shrimp are easy to breed. I started with 10 or 12 and after 3 months, I probably have 50 or more. It's impossible to count them!

    Dwarfs And Others

Here are some pictures from when they were still in quarantine. They've colored up some since then. I'll try to get some better pictures in the morning.

    Dwarfs And Others

I have two (male and female) and when they were in the quarantine tank I never saw them - they were always hiding. But in my 75 gallon community tank they are always out and active. They are wonderful fish. I highly recommend them!

    Am Now A Gourami Owner

I've had two banded gouramis (male and female) for about a month now and I absolutely love them. The female isn't as brightly colored, but she is still lovely. They are in a community tank and they get along with everyone. Overall just fantastic fish!

    Another Cory Id

Thanks everyone! I guess it doesn't really matter that much. I was more curious than anything. Regardless, they sure are cute little guys even though they are a bit shy. I'm hoping they'll become less shy as they get used to their new home.

    Another Cory Id

I bought four of these guys yesterday and they were labeled "spotted corydoras". I've browsed some photos on planet catfish, but I can't quite figure out what they are. Sorry that the the picture is a bit blurry - Corys sure move fast when they want too! I'm certain one of you experts here...

    Blemish On Catfish

Looks like fungus to me. My featherfin synos are prone to it when the nitrates get high (over 80). I found a water change and some pimafix clears it right up.

    Center Piece Fish

Actually, its different. Bandeds are slightly bigger than dwarfs and are more hardy. I have a pair (a trio would be better) and they are wonderful fish - active, non-aggressive and pretty.

    Bleeding Heart Tetras

I'd like to add some bleeding heart tetras to my 75 gallon tank, but I'm not sure how many. I've read different accounts of their size - anywhere from 2 1/2 to 4 inches. In your experience, how big do they REALLY get?

    Banded Gouramis

Looking at the pictures, that's what I thought too. I guess I'll try to find another female this weekend. Hopefully, I'll have better luck telling them apart. Thanks!!

    Banded Gouramis

Well, it turned out that the lfs only had two left when I returned. I'm not sure on the sexes. It's nearly impossible in the store and still hard for me at home. Any thoughts??

    Banded Gouramis

:thanks: Sylvia. I noticed the ones at my lfs were hiding, maybe from the bright lights. My tank is lightly planted, so maybe I'll add some floating plants.

    Banded Gouramis

I am thinking of adding two banded gouramis to my 75 gallon tank (current occupants are two featherfin synos, 5 f platties and 1 m and 2f swordtails). Would two be ok or would I be better off with only 1 or a trio? And does it matter whether they are male or female and if so how do you sex...

    New Flish Flicking

Gills look normal and no spots. In general, they seem healthy. Just an occasional flick.

    New Flish Flicking

Three days ago I bought 3 platies and 2 swordie and they are currently in a quarantine tank. I've noticed that some of them are rubbing their gill area against the ornaments in the tank. Nitrites and ammonia are both 0, so I don't think it's the water. There are no other symptoms. The fish...

Do Any Of These Combinations Work?

I think the pearls are my first choice too, but I'm a little concerned that the catfish will stress them. The featherfins stay mostly at the bottom, although sometimes they hangout on the back wall of the tank and occasionally they'll do some loops where they go up one side, across the top and...

Do Any Of These Combinations Work?

I have a new, but cycled, 75 gallon tank that currently has 2 featherfin synos, 2 female swordtails and 2 female platies. My water is hard and the pH is 7.8. I'm having a hard time deciding what to add to the tank and I've come up with a few possibilities: 3-4 pearl gouramis(3f or 1m and 3f)...

    Cat Fish Hiding

I have two featherfins and for the first 2-3 months we never saw one of them except for his whisker hanging out of the cave where he hid. After 6 months they are still pretty shy but come out much more. My two chase each other and hang around together, but I don't know that having two made...

Just Dump The Whole Tank In?

Just Dump The Whole Tank In?

I'm in the process of doing something very similar. I just bought a 75 gallon. Based on the advice I received from others on this board. I moved the filter (running with the new filter for the 75) and fish from my 20 L to the new tank. It's 10 days after the move and ammonia and nitrate have...

    Tank Upgrade

Thanks for all of the advice. :thanks: Is it worth transferring ANY of the water? Even if I was able to get 15 gallons from the old tank that would only be 20% of the capacity of the new tank. It seems like it'd hardly make a difference.

    Tank Upgrade

Thanks Miss Wiggle!! But, I can't really run the new filter on the old tank (its too big!). Will running them together on the NEW tank help?

    Tank Upgrade

I've just bought a 75 gallon tank and want to move the fish in my 20 L to the new tank. The filter on my 20 is a biowheel, so I can't move the media to my new filter (Eheim 2028). But will running the old filter along with the new filter help me avoid a cycle in the new tank? If so how long...

    Bio-spira

I've used it twice with fish in the tank and didn't have any problems. The ammonia dropped the next day and the nitrites after 2 days, by the third day everything was 0. Although, I did have some media from a cycled tank, so my results might not be typical.

    Tank Size

    Thanks fish. I'm thinking either a 55 or 75. With 2, I'm leaning toward the 75.

    Tank Size

I have two 3-4" syno eupterus in a 20 long right now, but am going to upgrade very soon. How big of a tank do you think I'd need?

    Harlequin Spawning?

Thanks both of you for the advice. I'll probably keep up with the RO water changes, seems a bit safer then chemicals.
  31. M

    Harlequin Spawning?

That behavior went on for a couple hours and it does seem like they were spawning, since there are clusters of what appear to be eggs on the leaves of some of the plants. But given my water, it sounds like nothing will come of it. For some reason the water that comes out of my RO unit is 6.9...

    Harlequin Spawning?

This morning I did a 10% water change, adding RO water in an effort to lower my pH a bit. Right afterwards my two of my harlequins starting swimming around upside down rubbing their stomachs on the bottom of leaves. Are they spawning? I'd be surprised because my water is fairly alkaline...

How Can I Soften My Water?

While I agree it's nice to buy fish that suited to your water, for some that is very difficult. My water comes out of the tap with 21 kH and a pH of 8.4. The only fish that are suited to that are African cichlids, which aren't really my cup of tea. I mix my tap water with RO water but unless...

    Mistake?

I have two featherfins with platys and swordies and they actually seem afraid of the other fish. Mine have grown very fast too, from 1-2" to 3-4" in about 6 months and they have gotten much more active too. From what I've read other places, featherfins have not successfully bred in aquariums.

    Sick Platy And More...

Thanks for the encouragement smmetz. Unfortunately, things seem to getting worse. The sick swordie is having a hard time swimming now. Fins are clamped on both the platy and the swordie.

    Sick Platy And More...

I have a 20 gallon long tank with 5 platies, 2 swordies and 2 small featherfin catfish (yes I know they will outgrow the tank -- they'll be rehomed). Since last Thursday one of the platies has been ill - lethargic, laying on the gravel or in a plant, little eating and she seems to have a curved...
