At least 3 or 4 in a 30 gallon tank. The suggested size for breeding them is a 20 gallon long. They can get up to 6", but they often don't, especially if you breed them as soon as they can.

A 20 is good for a small pair, but when they get in the 5 or 6 inch range a 30 gallon would be better. Be sure to use tall tanks. Oh, and by the way, it's spelled discus, not like the word for conversation.

I was just going to keep them in there for a little while as they are fry. I got four today and I put them in the twenty gallon alone. They look quite happy.

Are you kidding me? That's what fish do. Eat other fish. That's a good idea, actually, and what I was going to do with the excess fry when I start breeding a cichlid.

I didn't see any great fading in the pictures I found online, but I can definitely see it in the old oscars in my LFS, and you can see the color leaving these fish.
