i had bubbles from a airline with co2 going directly into my canister for a long time, no problems. i found that every so often the canister would belch out the co2 though. more efficent now - i use a ADA diffuser to create smaller bubbles that still get sucked into the intake. no more wasted co2

i went with carib-sea planted aquarium substrate, it's a little smaller grain than flourite, black and doesn't buffer.

well i had a pile of rocks now i have something that i'm getting closer to being satisfied with. i think in the future i'll use some expoy stick to arrange the rocks but for now this is what it looks like. i added 25lb of rock yesterday and stacked it a bit nicer.

to upgrade for a planted tank you have tons of choices, personally i've had good experience with coralife. comes in 1x65W and 2x65W models which are compactflourescent. for a 29G tank it sounds like you'll need a 30" light. other option are T5 or T8 systems where you can buy something pre-fab...
