Getting Fed Up With My Gold/green Stripe Corys

I have golds and tbh find them very timid most of the time. But given decent plant cover, time and good food, they become very active around 9pm onwards. They are sensitive to movement outside of the tank, so I have to pull up a pew and be patient, but they do come out and they are fantastic...

Oh Dear Me, I Have Made A Big Mistake I Think

Yikes. :o Sorry if I have mis-idendified the sexes of the t. elliotti. I had been told that although very difficult to sex, I could use the sexing comments in the following article as a guide www.britishcichlid.com/pdfs/the_family_thoric_dawson. Again, sorry if this is wrong!

    4th Time Lucky?

It's like a little clear plastic tub. Mostly you hear the phrase in the context of "I bought a punnet of strawberries/raspberries etc" although most punnets I've seen have holes in the bottom of them.

Preliminary Plans For My 4x2x2 (opinions Welcome)

Umm, I think you'll struggle with CO2 if you're only planning on using DIY yeast-based set up tbh. I'd go pressurised for a set up like that. You haven't mentioned lighting either as that's going to be a driving factor in your plants' fert and CO2 needs anyway. I'd also like to know what...

    Ceramic Diffuser

I've used a few ceramic diffusers now and all have made a high pitched noise as the bubbles pass through the ceramic. Having tinnitus means that I've plenty of other high pitched noises going around in my head anyway so this particular noise doesn't bother me :P

    Rescape

Red ludwigia was bought from ebay as L. glandulosa Small foreground = sagitaria subulata Crypt = C. wendtii but not sure which variety, whether it's brown or whatever. There may be some c. x willisii in there too, as it grew close to the wendtii but you won't know until they start growing as...

    Planned Planted 30l

In my low light nano, I have java fern, anubias barteri v. nana, ambulia, cryptocoryne undulata, hygrophilia corymbosa, christmas moss and flame moss. All grow fine, although the hygro grows extremely slow! I previously had sagittaria subulata in there too and it grew fine, but I took it out.

    Co2 In Bucks?

Check on Thomsonlocal or yell for fire safety companies and call to ask if they refill fire extinguishers. If they do FE's they may refill other cylinders - my FE refiller does as they're used to us aquarists getting them refilled.

How To Set Up An Easy Planted Tank

If you need a tank to do a practise scape on, I'm willing to tear mine apart - for the sake of the hobby, you understand. It would be hard, but I'm sure I would get over it, eventually...when it grew in. You bring the equipment, I'll supply the beer.

Eco-complete Bad Batch Think I Got One But Unsure!

The "bad batch" still does exactly what it is supposed to, it is only different in appearances. If you don't mind the appearance then all is well as far as you are concerned. This is mine, also from the "bad batch"; it isn't uniformly black as you can see and there are some pretty large chunks...

    Posting & Packaging Plants

I just stick them in a ziplock sandwich bag with some water. Then I roll up the edges to create a bubble of air around the plants and stick them in a jiffy. If the ziplock bag is taped correctly, you can put a nice bit of water in there and the bubble effect also means they're less likely to...

My Attempt At A Low Light, Low Tech Nano

Thank you :) The slow growth is definitely a test in patience so I'm glad I put the ambulia in there just so that I had something to trim occasionally! I know what you mean about the mono - as it took over my big tank despite being tied down, this time I have deliberately left it to free float...

My Attempt At A Low Light, Low Tech Nano

Latest pics - got rid of the dwarf sag which was doing ok and some bacopa which wasn't. Added some cryptocoryne undulata which should grow a bit bigger. Removed the background as it was ticking me off since some condensation obviously got in there (despite the tape sealing the top and sides...

Tank With Curved Edges / Seamfree?

You don't have to use the filter that it comes with. Whilst I don't have a AquaOne, I do have a Cleair which is set up the same (including the rounded glass corners). I removed the filter and installed an external - luckily the up and over filter system was cheaply made and was designed just...

    Dosing Ferts Kills Shrimp?

Some dry trace elements mixes contain copper, but how much depends on where you get your ferts from. I use a trace mix from gardendirect and haven't noticed an effect on my cherries or amanos although I gather that the trace mix from aquaessentials has less copper in it.

Male Red Cherry Shrimp In The Uk?

Shame you did post this a week earlier - I have loads of cherries and I'm sure we could have arranged to meet up on your way home on Sunday to give you some. Gotta say though, even if you've only 1 male, it will probably do the job sooner or later. I found the biggest difference occurred after...

    Drop Cheaker Colour......

Won't the number of drops of PH reagent needed be relative to the requirements of the test kit you are using and the amount of water needed for the test? What I mean is, if you're using say a Hagen PH test, you may need 2 drops per 5ml of water. So if you can only put in 2.5ml of water, you'd...

    Bicarbonate Of Soda

As I understand it, it raises the KH of water thus buffering the PH from the effects of CO2 (ie preventing a PH crash where the KH of the water is low). In the UK at least, bicarbinate of soda and baking powder are not the same thing - I have both and the ingredients listed on the baking powder...

No, got the wood from Ripples at a Wyevale near Shenstone (Lichfield) and the fish from Coxwell Aquatics at a Wyevale near Cosford. Using Seachem Ferts Are The Water Changes As Big?

I use the seachem stuff, but have still tried to get into the habit of doing 50% weekly water changes as I'm shortly to be switching over to EI. However, I don't believe that there is the same requirement to do large WC with seachem because you are not (unless you have amended your routine)...
