I have golds and tbh find them very timid most of the time. But given decent plant cover, time and good food, they become very active around 9pm onwards. They are sensitive to movement outside of the tank, so I have to pull up a pew and be patient, but they do come out and they are fantastic...

It's like a little clear plastic tub. Mostly you hear the phrase in the context of "I bought a punnet of strawberries/raspberries etc" although most punnets I've seen have holes in the bottom of them.

Are you sure they are Beckfordi? Look more like marginatus to me :unsure: Beckfordi (afaik) have only one clear black stripe... (here's where I find out from somebody mroe knowledgable that mine aren't beckfordi either lol)

Umm, I think you'll struggle with CO2 if you're only planning on using DIY yeast-based set up tbh. I'd go pressurised for a set up like that. You haven't mentioned lighting either as that's going to be a driving factor in your plants' fert and CO2 needs anyway. I'd also like to know what...

I've used a few ceramic diffusers now and all have made a high pitched noise as the bubbles pass through the ceramic. Having tinnitus means that I've plenty of other high pitched noises going around in my head anyway so this particular noise doesn't bother me :P

In my low light nano, I have java fern, anubias barteri v. nana, ambulia, cryptocoryne undulata, hygrophilia corymbosa, christmas moss and flame moss. All grow fine, although the hygro grows extremely slow! I previously had sagittaria subulata in there too and it grew fine, but I took it out.

I use the Tetra tec scraper and love it tbh. Makes cleaning look effortless.

Check on Thomsonlocal or yell for fire safety companies and call to ask if they refill fire extinguishers. If they do FE's they may refill other cylinders - my FE refiller does as they're used to us aquarists getting them refilled.

I just stick them in a ziplock sandwich bag with some water. Then I roll up the edges to create a bubble of air around the plants and stick them in a jiffy. If the ziplock bag is taped correctly, you can put a nice bit of water in there and the bubble effect also means they're less likely to...

You don't have to use the filter that it comes with. Whilst I don't have a AquaOne, I do have a Cleair which is set up the same (including the rounded glass corners). I removed the filter and installed an external - luckily the up and over filter system was cheaply made and was designed just...

Some dry trace elements mixes contain copper, but how much depends on where you get your ferts from. I use a trace mix from gardendirect and haven't noticed an effect on my cherries or amanos although I gather that the trace mix from aquaessentials has less copper in it.

It needs to have Bromothymol blue in it to work. I know Hagen Low Range kit does, since I use that kit (and Aquaessentials kindly point out that it is suitable to use).

I use the seachem stuff, but have still tried to get into the habit of doing 50% weekly water changes as I'm shortly to be switching over to EI. However, I don't believe that there is the same requirement to do large WC with seachem because you are not (unless you have amended your routine)...
