has anyone ever housed an oscar with clown loaches(4") and bala sharks(5" ), . i am temped to get get a small one to add to the tank(5x2x2).

it shouldnt do no, i had problems with my nitrate a few months ago, it was reading 60 and my fish didnt show no signs of stress, it was at this level for a good 2 weeks and i had no deaths in the tank. good luck with finding out the cause of death, just a thought, are there any pairs breeding...

I would say that a nitrate of 20 is fine and do not beleive this is what killed them, it could be a lack of oxygen due to the hot wheather lately, this will bring oxygen levels down, is the outlet on the filter breaking the water surface, if not i would position it to do so as this should help.

You could always seal the wood with pond sealant or a non toxic yaught varnish, that should put your mind at ease. hope you find the piece your looking for. :D

Thanks for the prompt answers everyone I think i am going to bite the bullet and get myself down to argos tommorow, i might even mix the sand with some of the gravel, is this a good idea or will the gravel in time end up on top of the sand.

My tetratec external filter is almost silent i can only here a quiet hum if the room is dead silent and i am close to it. it is the quietest external i have owned (even quieter than eheim filters) :D

Im thinking of changing my gravel to sand and was wondering whether you could use non toxic playsand also will it clump together. i dont plan to have any live plants plated in it so am not bothered about nutrition properties in it. would it be worth spending a bit more and buying aquarium sand...
