Mistook Ammo Lock For Stress Coat And Now Water Cloudy - Help!

Mmm that's a good point. I guess the the filter had started running again for about 2 minutes before I spotted my mistake so some cholrine may have passed through the filter by that point. It's looking less cloudier now and my levels are currently ok so I hope it's just a question of time...

Mistook Ammo Lock For Stress Coat And Now Water Cloudy - Help!

yes it just says that it doesn't supply drinking water to our postcode and to contact Southeast water for details. I've just seen on SE water's website links to drinking water but it doesn't give any specifics, only that no fluoride is added and that some people may choose to fit a water...

Mistook Ammo Lock For Stress Coat And Now Water Cloudy - Help!

Water is a whiteish cloudy not green. When I did the original water change I replaced one of my white filter floss pads and rinsed my ceramic noodles round in a bucket of tank water. Aside from that I removed the bogwood that I've had in the tank for a year and did a thorough gravel vac.

Mistook Ammo Lock For Stress Coat And Now Water Cloudy - Help!

Stats this morning read: PH: 6.6 Amonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10 Water is still slightly cloudy but after the water change yesterday is not quite so bad as it was. I reckon I must have overdosed on the ammo lock but if the follow up to your post is correct then that shouldn't really matter...

Mistook Ammo Lock For Stress Coat And Now Water Cloudy - Help!

 I'm really annoyed with myself. I cleaned my tank out last weekend giving it a 40% water change. API are celebrating their 25th anniversary and to mark that have temporarily changed their bottles from white to silver. Stupidly, I was on autopilot (I've had my aquarium for over 3...

Red Danios - Legal In The Uk?

Blimey - controversial stuff. I'm planning on going back in at the end of the week to pick up some fish food so it'll be interesting to see how many of them are still there.

Red Danios - Legal In The Uk?

Hi I'm confused...... My LFS who has a fantastic national reputation has some beautiful fish in that took my breath away. They are being sold as 'Red Danios' and when I asked about them the sales assistant said they had imported them from their regular supplier in Vietnam but that he was...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

Thanks Backtotropical! I'll do a 75% water change this evening and just keep trying to get that level down. I think I'll wait a week and do an ammonia test on the water butt. When I took the bogwood out it didn't look in too bad a shape but I suppose you can never tell. I've just tested my...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

I'm using API Stress Coat for my decholrinator, have never used anything but that. I've doubled up on it during last night and tonights water changes. My ammonia reading is down to 4 today but I still have a long way to go. The zeolite is out and more noodles have gone in. Miss Wiggle my...

    Too Many Fry?

I know it feels cruel when you have the fry for the first time but I would release them into the tank. You don't have the capacity to raise 40 extra fish and when all is said and done it would be survival of the fittest in the wild. You will be amazed at how great fry are at hiding and you'll...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

Ok guys now I'm confused. When I set up my tank my LFS told me to set up my filter and what order to do it in. There are two sides to the filter and the order in which they're prepared is the same on both sides. I have the white floss on the bottom with the ceramic noodles lying on top. I...

    Too Many Fry?

How big is your tank? I had this problem with platy fry. I kept them int he breeder net for about a month then released them into my tank and when they had grown to a decent size I bagged them all up and took them into my local aquatic store. They didn't give me anything for them because they...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

Have read the post you're referring to. Will be getting mine out tomorrow for inspection. It was very very dry when I bought it and took a long time to sink in my waterbutt. A chunk of it fell off when I put it into my tank which was a shame because it kind of ruined the shape. And, there...

    Bit Of A Dilemer

This is all interesting. I'm the person BacktoTropical had replied to a thread concerning an ammonia spike. I'm thinking now it really could be my bogwood. There are loads of broken off peices nestled in my gravel around the base of the wood everytime I gravel vac. I will be lifting mine out...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

OK, thanks so much for your reply, you've basically confirmed what I had been thinking regarding the Ammo Lock so I'll continue with it for now. Answers to your questions: Today's readings: Ammonia 8, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, PH7.4 I gravel vac thoroughly weekly - never go any longer (aside...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

No haven't removed the bogwood because my LFS told me it couldn't possibly be that that's causing the problem. Yes, I've had quite a lot of fish deaths. Since all this started in April I've lost 1 rummy nose tetra, 1 neon, 1 female fighting fish and 3 corys. I just don't see what the problem...

Still Battling Amonia - On The Verge Of Giving Up Hobby

I posted a few weeks ago on here. To cut a long story hopefully shorter.............my tank had been established and running great for over 2 years. I bought a large peice of bogwood back in early March, soaked it for 6 weeks and then put it in the tank. Went away on holiday for a week and...

At My Wits End, Please Help!

fish in the tank aren't looking any different to normal. One of the Neons doens't look in too good a state and I fear the end is near for him but aside from that there is no difference in their behaviour. But why the cloudiness? I just don't get it. Could it be anything to do with the Ammo Lock?

At My Wits End, Please Help!

I went away for a week back at the end of April and when I returned I tested my water and found that I had an amonia spike. I was alarmed to see that it was at 4. I have had my tank set up for over 2 years now and have only ever had my amonia at 0, nitrite at 0 and Nitrates at 10-20. My PH is...

    Mouth Rot / Fungus

I added a new Pearl Danio to my tank last week and unfortunately made the daft decision not to set up my incubation tank as my Christmas tree was sat on the unit I usually set my incubation tank up on. So, I introduced the fish into my main community tank straight away. Today I have noticed...

Pearl Danio - What's Going On?

Maidenhead Aquatic assured me that a Betta would fit well into a community tank such as mine so long as there is ample plants and that it is somewhat of a myth that you must keep them separate. The recommended adding 3-4 female Bettas to keep him company but havent' as yet as I haven't been...

Pearl Danio - What's Going On?

I have had 3 Pearl Danios living in my tank harmoniously and healthily for a long while now. About 5 weeks ago I bought a beautiful Siamese Fighting Fish and introduced him to my community tank. You can see from my signature what else is living in my tank. About a week after introducing the...

    Tank Inhabitants Slowly Dying

Wilder: How do I go about steralising? Prepared that some day soon I'm most likely going to have to start again but it's the cleansing down process I'm not sure of. Is there a special solution you need to buy or is it just copius amount of boiling water or steam cleaning? I'll certainly hold...

    Tank Inhabitants Slowly Dying

My tank has been up and running since April. I do regular maintenance, test my readings every fortnight(ish) and haven't had anything out of the safe parametres until today when I spotted my nitrate at 40 (though it could be 80 because the reds on the Aquarium Pharaceuticals master kit are SO...

    Bloated Platties

I'd go back to the shop and have a look at the remaining ones in the tank that your platys came from. If they are bloated too then that would tell you something. Alternatively, just put them back into a bag and take them back to the shop. My mum bought two platys who developed fungus within a...

    Discusting Algae Taking Over!

Don't worry it's just hair algae and most of us have battled it at one time or another. I introduced 8 amano shrimp to my tank and they do a fantastic job of keeping it at bay. When you say it's long - how long exactly? This link is helpful http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=106371

    Another Pregnancy And Birth Question!

Fry left in the tank feed off the food that you put in the tank for other fish, they also eat algae I believe (although I would imagine your tank is not mature enough to have algae yet). It's a good idea to buy some 'liquifry 3' which is a very ground down powder specifically for feeding fry...

    Help :( Platy

I wouldn't worry too much. I've lost a platy which left his very attached mate behind. I'm not an advocate of the 'fish have no feelings' school of thought but at the same time I wouldn't be as concerned with a fish as I would say a dog being left behind. Maybe I'll start off a hot debate...

    Another Pregnancy And Birth Question!

I would take her out of there and just monitor the tank Keeley. I believe fish put into those birthing units can actually prematurely abort their young due to stress. It's best just to observe her swimming around the tank freely and scoop the fry out into the birthing unit as you see them...

What Is Happening To My Fish?

When the remaining fish go to the toilet it is usually just normal pinky brown colour. I feed them tetra pro colour and their poo tends to be red after this as the food has a red colour to it. I don't see any excrement to cause alarm in the remaining ones. Feeling so guilty though for not...

    Why Is My Tank Leaking

That happened to me, with my 6 gallon. It's an Aqua One model. My LFS told me that there is a reported fault with overfilling these tanks and this as Tokis Phoenix mentions results in lots of condensation running down the back of the tank. I now fill it up to a slightly lower level and it...

    Skinny Fish

I've just gone through a similar sort of thing but not as rapid as what you seem to be experiencing. I've lost 5 in 10 weeks but they all have become really skinny and then died. My LFS said that it sounded like wasting disease and that my tank needs a course of sterazin followed by an...
