Chance has been jumping lately - after his main round of jumping he started with building a bubble nest. Dunno, maybe he's looking for female bettas? He also splashed me the other night when I was doing a water change - got me right in the face with the water :lol:

Has anyone noticed their bettas acting really odd during certain weather? I thought Chance was dying for about a week - then the weather changed from cold & damp to warm & sunny and he recovered for a day. Then the weather changed back, and he went back to acting strange again. His water temp...

Can bettas have seizures?? That is what Chance looks like is going on! Huh.... He looks perfectly healthy. Just not hungry. He'll be swimming then suddenly stop and be perfectly still. Or he'll go to the opposite extreme, suddenly start swimming really fast & erratically. He *looks* fine...

OK my water facility is known for dumping chlorine in the water - it can be bad sometimes, smells & tastes horrible! I use dechlorinator - but what if it's not enough? What symptoms would I notice? Help! Wondering if that is what's wrong w/chance...??

I wouldn't put a snail in with a betta. I have a new tiny apple snail and she is in a separate tank from my betta, but the betta can still see her. He spends hours stalking her and preparing to attack her from a distance, he is one happy - but cranky - betta :nod: :wub: Rose, the snail...

Chance's tank is 72 F - and he loves it. He's a hyper little fish. If I warm it more than that, he doesn't really change his activity level.

I found out my new snail is an apple snail - but tiny! About 3 mm across right now but female :) What is the min tank size she should be in? Thanks!

Well that explains why, now when I use the vacuum thing in his gravel, Chance won't get out of the way!! He always used to, now he just follows it around LOL Sure, fishy...the suction cup thing is going to feed you :)

Has anyone else done this? Im ashamed to admit it... I occassionally feed Chance his bloodworms by hand LOL!! He takes them very nicely from me - usually I'll stick one to the end of my finger & then he'll take it off (um, the bloodworm, that is....LOL!). :)

Chance always does this!! He does it especially when he thinks I should have fed him earlier :) He is a bossy little fish!! He will sneak up on the food, and then "pounce" on it -- I think he's really a miniature shark.....

Thanks! It was interesting - when I got him, his head was nearly the same color as the rest of his body!! Since then, his body has darkened & his head has lightened!

I have a few questions about betta's ages... (1) how old are the bettas that you buy in pet stores, usually? (2) how long will bettas live, on average? (3) is there any way to estimate a betta's age based on his appearance? Thanks!

To have 4 females how big a tank would you need? I've always wanted to have more than 1 betta together after Chance ... well... has left me someday.... I don't want to go larger than 10g though (5 1/2 preferred) so may have to go with a divided tank. How would 1 male or 1 female betta do in...

Hey I did the same thing the first time I tried to use mine! It took practice - and realizing that the entire suction cup part has to be submerged initially, then allowed to fill with water before it will work. Sometimes it still makes the cloudy mess but usually I can get it to work :) I...

If you've seen my pictures you'll know that I'm a terrible photographer! Everyone else's bettas look nice & clear & my betta looks like a giant blur who is never posed right. Geez! I hope people answer you b/c I could use tips too!!

If you washed it off, he may not like it! Chance likes some plants better than others - I actually bought a new style for him (silk) when I "upgraded" his tank, and he acted kind of like how it sounds your guy is. I bought a larger plant just like his old plastic one, and he was back to normal...

My betta initially spit out everything but flakes & bloodworms. Now he's so picky, he only finds one brand of bloodworms acceptable to him. B)
