That same thing happened to my tank and ended up being an algae bloom, I just got some cheapie algae bloom medication and 1 dose fixed it right up. I had over cleaned my tank.

The remaining survivor is pretty small smaller than you would get in petstores. I guess it is about 2 inches long? But i've had them since they were itty bitty. At least 7 months. Trust me I HATE doing it too, but I don't like picking them off of the filter or letting them float around my tank...
