    More Brackish At Wildwoods (uk)

I might have to pay that place a visit one day - it looks awesome. There are not many good aquatic stores where I live.

    10 Gallon Brackish Stock Suggestion

Bumblebee gobies would be great as you could have quite a few, they should be pretty active too. Just make sure they have plenty of hiding places to stop them fighting over territory.

    Krib Question

I too have the same thing. My female has very deep colouration on her belly and is larger than the male (at least I think its a male.) The big female is always chasing the other and hardly gives it a moment's peace. I'm not sure whether the other Krib is male as the pale colour could be due to...

    Naughty Krib

They've only been in the tank 24 hours so I'm not sure they've established territories yet. There are moments of peace. The male will creep up on the female and sometimes nudge her then chase her and sometimes will be quite affectionate. I'll be keeping a close eye on them I think.

    Naughty Krib

Hi, I've just introduced two Kribensis into my community aquarium. One male and one female. The male is very aggressive towards the female but leaves all the other fish alone. Any idea what's up? There are plenty of places to hide as the tank is well planted. Will they settle down or should I...

    Brackish Plants

Unless your willing to introduce some CO2 I'd suggest sticking with plastic / silk plants too. You'll have a hard time getting plants to thrive otherwise. Plus there are some very good fake plants available these days.

    Buying A F8 Puffer

Just one more word of advice: If you're keeping your fish food in your beer fridge, just be careful if you're having a bit of a session. Although beer into the fish tank would not be good, a mouthful of mosquito larvae has to be worse!!!

    Buying A F8 Puffer

F8s are usually very good at letting you know if they're not happy. Their colours will fade and they will be very withdrawn. If they seem happy then you must be doing something right. I feed my F8s once a day and have one day a week when I don't feed them at all. Are the mussels you feed them...

    Setting Up Fig 8's Tank

Plant it quite heavily at the sides and keep plenty of open swimming space at the front. Make sure there are plenty of little "caves" where the fish can chill out. The BB Gobies will especially need this as they can be very territorial. Although watching little gobies scrap is amusing, its...

Hi, Thanks for the advice! I've looked on the site though and they don't appear to have Olive Nerites. Do they come under a different name? They have the following: Tiger Ruby Horse Shoe Staghorn Bumblebee Flash Tiger Thanks, Kev

    Fish To Remove Brown Algae.

Hi, I have a 35g tank with two F8s and 4 Bumblebee Gobies, SG is 1.005. All is well, water quality is good and everybody seems happy. The tank has been set-up for nearly 3 months now so it is still early days though. Some brown algae has been slowly appearing on the sides of the glass and on...

    High Nitrite And Nitrate Reading

I've just had a thought - do dying plants produce ammonia? There are a couple of plants in my tank (brackish) that are starting to die. I was going to leave them in there as I am getting a CO2 fermenter early next week. Could they be the problem?

    High Nitrite And Nitrate Reading

I've now changed more of the water, around 25% in total and will leave it for today. I'll check again tomorrow and if necessary do another change. The fish don't seem too bothered at this time so hopefully there's no urgency.

    High Nitrite And Nitrate Reading

Hi, I have some Ehfi Substrat in there which I left alone, I replaced some of the carbon and some of the cotton-wool like stuff (whatever that's called) so there's still a lot of the original media in there. The cotton-wool stuff I didn't remove was washed in aquarium water. So, as far as I...

    High Nitrite And Nitrate Reading

Hi all, I've just performed a water change on my 120l tank with sand substrate. I also cleaned up some of the filter media, removed any messy bits in the tank and disturbed the sand a bit. I've now done my water tests and I'm getting high nitrite and nitrate readings. There's never been a...

    Trapped Bumblebee Goby

Hi, I found a bumblebee goby trapped down the side of my filter box today. I have a juwel tank with one of those black plastic boxes. The eheim filter inlet is inside with the juwel heater clipped in too. It is not glued to the glass but was so well wedged into the sand that I didn't think...

    Leaning F8 Puffer

Hi, I have just noticed one of my F8s "leaning" against a mangrove decoration. I was initially a bit worried that he might be sick but when I put a net in to remove a piece of food, he moved. He's now swimming fine and behaving normal again. Has anyone else witnessed this behaviour? Or do you...

    Hard Water

The easiest way to soften hard water is to add soft water. Bottled water is usually the best option. You'll need to check what it contains though. I'm afraid I don't know which US brand bottled water is soft. As for Ammo-lock, from my limited knowledge of it, all it does is render the ammonia...

My New Tank For My Figure-8 Puffers

The caves are little terracotta pots from a "Pot-Man" that I cut up. There are also some plumbing tubes as well. The plastic angled pipe is cool, it goes into the sand under the mangrove root and pops out at the front. There are 2 F8 puffers and 4 bumblebee gobies. It's a 30 gallon tank.

    Can't Raise Sg Level

I have now taken the little weight out of the plastic needle-indicator in the hydrometer, this was obviously weighing the needle down too much as the reading for tap water was well below 1.000. I replaced the weight with a blob of blue-tac and added/removed bits of the blue-tac until it read...

What Can I Do With An Eheim Compact 1000?

Hi all, I need a couple of inventive ideas. I have a cude (ish) tank with a small Eheim Compact 1000 pump. The pump's a great little thing but the tank is quite heavily planted and even when I turn it down the pump makes the plants move too much, causing too much disruption. Also, due to the...

    Can't Raise Sg Level

Is that the case when introducing new fish? I have bought a couple of F8 puffers that are still in the LFS until my tank is ready. I want to bring the SG up to match what the puffers are currently in. Should I be overly worrying about this or not? What is an acceptable amount to be out do you...

    Can't Raise Sg Level

Hi, I've had pretty much the same issue. I have a tank which holds about 100 litres, I want it at 1.005. The box of salt I have says it will make 60 litres of saltwater at 1.025. So I worked out I need about half a box. I've added nearly all the box and my hydrometer still reads under 1.003! I...

    Sick Danio

Tank has been set-up for 2 weeks. It has had about 20 snails in there along with plants - the plants were from a friends aquarium which is trouble-free. I also got lent some filter media. Yes, I dechlorinated the water. Fish seemed healthy in the shop. The other 5 fish seem fine too.

    Sick Danio

Hi, I have 6 danios, 3 zebra, 3 leopard in a relatively new tank. They've been in there 24 hours. I've noticed in the last hour that one of the fish has developed a red tumor looking thing on its side, its only tiny so is difficult to see. He is also swimming around in circles rather than...

Tankmates For A South American Puffer?

Sounds like good advice there. I only plan to have to one tank for the time being so I should probably get that settled and then get another smaller tank to "experiment." Then if he gets nasty I can keep him on his own if he gets nasty. Cheers, Kev

    New Tiger Barb Tank

Hi Lu, I pretty much change my mind hourly at the moment. I am now looking at tanks which are still 24" long but are taller which will give me about 100 litres (about 26 US gallons.) Don't yet know what to put in, I think the Cichlids would be too much for a tank that size - they prefer longer...
