Its Not Freshwater, Its Not Marine... Its... I Don't Know Yet.

Will go have a read now whilst dinner cooks. Good to know on the sand, makes another decision to move the tank and stand a bit easier. If emptying 100% I may as well. I was doing some further reading last night/earlier this morning and a sump is out - its a home made stand with solid...

Its Not Freshwater, Its Not Marine... Its... I Don't Know Yet.

Decided to put this here as none of the other categories fitted in my opinion. I've not been restocking my 4' tank as it's inhabitants have slowly passed away over the years and I'm now down to 3 tetras & 3 khuli loaches. I also have an empty 2' tank and so thinking on what to do with the 4'...

    Any Star Gazers...?

I make these comments regardless of religous choice. The crust is not a solid, non moving mass and objects can and do move around inside it at different rates. Thing of putting squash into water, you can see the squash sink down into the glass before it mixes because of its inertia or some...

Been quiet from the forums for some time, busy with my other hobbies - including astronomy.   Proud owner of a skywatcher 150P on an eq3-2 mount here :D   Would really love to get a solar scope though.

    Cheap Co2 Kit System?

Wattage only advises of the power consumption, for which incandescent, fluorescent and LED have different efficiency at converting it into light over other types of energy (e.g. heat, noise (yup, they all make noise to some degree) and so on.   What actually matters is the spectrum covered for...

How Do You Tell Is A Beta Is Likely To Be Aggressive?

Just thought I would throw in, I had a corner tank, roughly 9 gallon in size, which was a moderately planted tank housing a single male betta splenden and 6 african dwarf frogs.   never a single problem between them. Rocky (the betta) had the best personality i've ever seen in a fish. would...

Looking At Getting A Reptile Or Amphibian

first up: what is the enclosure that you bought/its dimensions. This will severely alter the type of reptile you can keep.   Next is; consider what it will need as a grown adult. A bearded dragon will need a vivarium that is a minimum 48"x18"x18" - I recommend wooden as you also want to retain...

Project Thread - Complete Aquarium Control System

It was good reading this, I have been procrastinating in my own ponders of having an IoT (Internet of Things) enabled fish tank.   My thoughts are somewhat different - I am thinking of going down the microcontroller route but then the Raspberry Pi Zero came out and I decided with the additional...

Looking at the size of his head compared to your pinky finger id say this guy can chow down what wed call here medium mouse easily enough. Ball pythons are amazingly capable of smalling something much larger than their head and even more so than more common kingsnakes or cornsnakes can...

    Nom Nom Nom, Squeamish Beware

My wife for a long time has bred fancy mice, rats, hamsters etc. and managed to create a simple distinction in her mind between pets and food. Afterall we have cats and feed them rabbit all the time even though we also have rabbits. I think it helps that in the UK feeding live food is illegal...

Hydor Eth 300 Heater Stopped Working. A Diy Fix.

Haha yeah a couple of years ago we had a major power outage and a few grands worth of reptiles getting cold. Should have seen the efforts! I now have a portable gas heater. Wont ever make the desert temps some things love but at least it keeps the room reasonable.

Hydor Eth 300 Heater Stopped Working. A Diy Fix.

The tank is only 200L however night time temperatures in this room are already dropping to about 9º the rule of thumb I have foubd for this home is 50% extra so the 250W will be fine. Big thanks to a friend for pulling that one out of a cupboard. Just glad I decided to bridge the old resistor...

Hydor Eth 300 Heater Stopped Working. A Diy Fix.

Well its bad news everyone, the resistor appears to have not been the only casualty. Testing of the new resistor piggy backed without permanent change has found one of the micro controllers appears to have been damaged at the same time. Feeling that this is getti g beyond economical point, I...

Hydor Eth 300 Heater Stopped Working. A Diy Fix.

As winter sets in I noticed my tank had dropped to 21º yesterday and increase the temp on my hydor eth 300 external heater. This morning, to my horrer the tank is now 19.8º (I stuck a probe in at this point to make sure it wasnt the thermometer.) Its Sunday and I bought this heater off a...

If you are UK you may want to try this: http://www.uk-automation.co.uk/products/Marmitek-X10-Plug-in-Filter-FM10U.html Not cheap but it might deliver what you are looking for. Dropping to zero though is some powerful amount of interference.

Which Will Brighten The Tank More?

No problems. High wattage LED also get rather hot, but you cab heatsink & cool them really easily. Nowt wrong with silly questions either. I often like them, make life more fun. Coca colas website has info in their website FAQ about why Fanta is called Fanta. Its there because I asked :)

Which Will Brighten The Tank More?

Personally I would not use the GU10. If you have any halogen lights around the home, go hold your hand a few cms away for a few mins. In fact I can save you some time: I use 28W halogen bulbs to make 35º hotspots for my reptiles. Thats 28W at a distance of 10-15cm.

    Led Noise / Homeplugs

It is possible that the socket the HP is connected to is a spur from the ring socket your LED are plugged into: effectively makes it an extensio thats just wired behind your walls. If at all possible, run an extension from any other socket to your LED, plug them into the extension and plug your...

Which Will Brighten The Tank More?

The 50w gu10 will be (in my perception) about 3 times brighter, but burn a lot more energy and produce a massive amount of heat. I cant exaggerate that one. Massive amounts. I swapped the GU10's in my house ceiling lights for 1W led lights about 3 years ago and the light was far better than...

Diy Whole Tank Led Lighting Retrofit

Just an FYI in the decorating, you can purchase hollow conduit channel skirting boards. Can run electric, network and AV cables etc through it easily. You can so get a version that runs hot water through them, replacing radiators with a hidden heating system that spreads throughout the room.

    Fish Tank Cabinet Diy Project

For reference I use these to light up some vivs, they barely hold that up. These are solely mood lighting, nothing else. I am currently re-designing a cupboard outfit and will be using T5HO tubes vertically up either side as the light sources. Bonus i can add some low UVB %

How Do You Clean Aquarium Sand?

"With mild green Fairy Liquid" Sorry. As described, fill a third of a bucket, stir with hand whilst filling & filled, give 20 seconds to settle, pour off top, refill. Each third bucket of sand will need this a minimum 3 times for best results, more for dirtier sand. Outdoors with a flower bed...
