Been A While, Look At My New Pics...!

I'm with the others. Wyatt is a Crowntail in the first picture but SuperDelta (with no ray extensions) in the second picture. :)

    Well, Here He Is!

Haha great. I'm partial to Bob. My 2 year old niece named her favourite fish Bob :) Anyways, that's a great little aquascape, and a nice betta :)

    Too Much Feed?

He's probably a healthy guy! I would limit to a small pinch in the morning and one at night too. Do you have any pictures of him? If you want him to grow more, a good combination is always high quality food (and a variety of it) and frequent water changes! -ezrock

Bettas (new To Fish As A Whole)

Hi. I would recommend against putting one male and one female betta in that tank. Male and female bettas generally should not be kept together in one tank unless you are specifically trying to spawn them. Also, bettas won't really do well with the other fish in that tank. How about some...

When Breeding Bettas, What Tail Type Combos Make What?

Hi Aussie_dog. That combo (CT x DT) would likely produce mostly single tail combtails. They'd probably have a lot of them as SDs and HMs thanks to the DT influence. The crowntail doesn't really penetrate too well in the first generation so the fringes would be various degrees of comb...

When Breeding Bettas, What Tail Type Combos Make What?

F1 with itself is fine if you have two fish that will get you closer to your goal! The timing between generations is basically once the fish are big enough to rate them and to breed. I just bred an F3 today, and the parents are about 3cm long. I liked the parents and the mom was showing signs...

    Breeding Bettas

I would definitely recommend against trying it that way. It's sometimes difficult enough to get a successful spawn by the tried, tested, and true method that I wouldn't consider going the route you mentioned. Also, if you eventually want to get into bettas seriously (which I recommend since...

    Fin Type Of Female Bettas

I've found that most females tend to have a bit of ray-extension making them look like combtails (on the caudal fins). But, the dorsal of that blue does seem to have this too so she might be a combtail. The others are likely VTs. Where did you get them from. If it's from a pet shop, then...

Why Are They All Losing Colour?

I might have missed this, but do they have dark brown horizontal stripes when they lose their colour? If so, it's most likly stressed. I've had sick bettas lose colour before, and they usually don't have the stress stripes. I hope it's just stress with your bettas and that by separating the...

My Betta Is Eating My Cory's Food...

Good advice here. I'd also recommend being a bit imaginative with your feedings. Spreading the food out will give the cory more chances to eat some before Loretta gets to it. But don't overfeed ... it'd be easy to do that with this technique ;)

    Spawn Log, Leo And Lily

Yep, definitely lower the water level. I even spawn in about 4" :) Another member of the betta breeders canada group has had success with just 1.5" of water! I always leave the female in unless there's significant fin damage. I hear all the time of people taking out a non-damaged female just...

After I Get The Fry What Do I Do?

Hi. I suggest you consider reading the page that's linked from my signature. It has the low-down. Also, in case you don't have any BBS eggs or microworms, I would suggest getting those ready before you spawn. If you don't have live foods to feed your babies then the chance of them surviving...

    2 Questions

I have pigmy cories in with my 5 F1 Betta falx. They leave each other alone :) The pigmy cories only grow to 1.25" apparently, and they just spend their time scanning the tank bottom for left over flakes ;)

Minimum Tank Size For A Single Male?

I definitely agree with ibble. The ~2.5 gallon is great for a single betta if you do your water changes appropriately. The 9.25 gallon is perhaps a bit small for a female sorority. If you have enough live plants and other places for females to hide (caves, rocks, etc) then you could probably...

    How To Breed Bettas

That's not really true. I have bred some quality bettas without spending tons of time, and certainly without spending a lot of money. If you know what you're doing, you can streamline the process and be quite efficient!

    How To Breed Bettas

That can be a very variable amount of time. Sometimes they'll breed right away, sometimes they'll take more than a week to decide to spawn...Important thing is to leave them alone if they're not being too aggressive with each other.

    How To Breed Bettas

I usually wait until the female has verticle stripes on her body. When she is ready, she'll sometimes also swim with her head pointed down at a 45 degree angle. This, of course, is when she's in the male tank and separated from the male though. Then you know you can release her. I don't...

    Tried To Pair Them....

Did you have her in a chimney within his tank for a day or so first? The most common tip I give people is to avoid the temptation of taking the girl out early. As long as there is no major damage, she can be left in (assuming you're watching out for fin damage) :) -EZROCK-

    How To Breed Bettas?

It's a relatively common misconception that breeding bettas is hugely time consuming and/or really difficult. I breed bettas and I work 70 to 90 hours per week at my job. It can definitely be done. My signature has a link to a site I have setup about breeding bettas if you're interested.

    How To Breed Bettas

Hey. I don't think that's a good idea. When the male is guarding the nest, you'll want to not have the female near. He will get quite annoyed at constantly seeing her and thinking she'll be able to get to the eggs. (after a spawn the male usually forces the female away until you can take her...

    Betta Tank

Do These Both Look Like Females To You?

I agree. I like to use mostly the ventrals and anal fin shape. A more square anal fin usually signifies a female. Both of the fish above have squarish anal fins and short ventrals.

    Breeding Betta Falx?

lol thanks Syph I'll try to get some pics soon. Right now, they're pretty plain coloured. I think they really only colour up during spawning courtship, etc. I'll try moving them to a bigger tank with some caves and such (based on my readings) and hope that can trigger some spawns. -Ezrock

    Breeding Betta Falx?

Hi everyone. I haven't been here in a long time, and I used to mostly come here for the guppy section. Now bettas are my thing though. Anyways, I know how to successfully breed betta splendens. I have recently received a set of 5 betta falx juvies that I raised up to what seems to be close...

Hmm. Everyone seems in agreement that Loki is a female, but the long ventrals suggest to me that Loki is male. hmm. Either way it's a nice copper betta!
