Good advice here. I'd also recommend being a bit imaginative with your feedings. Spreading the food out will give the cory more chances to eat some before Loretta gets to it. But don't overfeed ... it'd be easy to do that with this technique ;)

I have pigmy cories in with my 5 F1 Betta falx. They leave each other alone :) The pigmy cories only grow to 1.25" apparently, and they just spend their time scanning the tank bottom for left over flakes ;)

That's not really true. I have bred some quality bettas without spending tons of time, and certainly without spending a lot of money. If you know what you're doing, you can streamline the process and be quite efficient!

That can be a very variable amount of time. Sometimes they'll breed right away, sometimes they'll take more than a week to decide to spawn...Important thing is to leave them alone if they're not being too aggressive with each other.

Did you have her in a chimney within his tank for a day or so first? The most common tip I give people is to avoid the temptation of taking the girl out early. As long as there is no major damage, she can be left in (assuming you're watching out for fin damage) :) -EZROCK-

It's a relatively common misconception that breeding bettas is hugely time consuming and/or really difficult. I breed bettas and I work 70 to 90 hours per week at my job. It can definitely be done. My signature has a link to a site I have setup about breeding bettas if you're interested.

If you're worried about current and especially for the babies, I would suggest any sponge filter :) Babies can't get sucked up them ;)

Yep or some larger snails. I've found myself in the same situation before. $10 for 2.5gal or $10 for a 10gal. I bet you can guess which one I bought ;) Came in handy for breeding later on too :)

Nice betta :) I love blue marbles. I would suggest some form of water movement at some point soon. Bettas like movement in the water :) With some plants/gravel over time that tank will look great!

Yep Cellophanes. Did you take pics? If you search cellophane bettas online you can probably come up with some similar ones :)

I agree. I like to use mostly the ventrals and anal fin shape. A more square anal fin usually signifies a female. Both of the fish above have squarish anal fins and short ventrals.

lol thanks Syph I'll try to get some pics soon. Right now, they're pretty plain coloured. I think they really only colour up during spawning courtship, etc. I'll try moving them to a bigger tank with some caves and such (based on my readings) and hope that can trigger some spawns. -Ezrock

Hmm. Everyone seems in agreement that Loki is a female, but the long ventrals suggest to me that Loki is male. hmm. Either way it's a nice copper betta!
