I would test first before adding any fish. why risk the life of a fish that you probably dont really want anyway. Paul

I had 2 clown loaches that used to be able to fit behind my filter. i now have a crab which lives in the filter, whenever i remove it it climes up the heater and straight back in, it also likes to bask on top. im sure it lives there cos thats where all the best scraps end up. Paul

maybe it is ethically wrong to remove fish from the wild but if that is so then surely there must be enough fish keepers now with many varied species that we can provide captive bred fish from our own aquariums to our lfs or am i just being to new and naive to the hobby.

hi i currently have a fresh water crab in my tank and its very thorough cleaning up anything that is missed by the fish, it does not however make any difference to water quality so water changes are just as often. you also have to be careful with slower moving fish cos if it can catch it it...

the only person i trust to feed my fish other than myself is my wife even then make her show me exactly how much she gave them.

hi cujoho, i have a silver dollar which does a similar thing. If i put a loach tablet into the tank it will grab it off the bottom of the tank then carry it round like a dog with a bone.
