    What's wrong?

Just an update for everyone who was helping me with my fish problem. I decided to take the plunge and remove all the fish and put them into my smaller already established tank. It has been being used to quarantine new arrivals so was well established) That was 10 days ago and I haven't lost...

    How Do You Prepare Cucumber?

Mine love it! I remove the skin, chop it into tiny bite size pieces, wash it and throw it in. I only give them a small slice every now and then and they always eat it all. I f there was any left it can easily be removed with a net because it floats. You could also try peas. Cooked and chopped.

    Tapsafe Overdose

my other half did a water change for me last week after receiving strict instructions about temperature, filter cleaning and tapsafe. However he misunderstood and added enough tapsafe for the whole tank to each of the 4! buckets of water he added. The fish looked unhappy and 2 have ragged tails...

    Are Danios Aggressive?

I have 6 leopard danios in 1 coldwater tank, 3 leopards in another and 3 pearls in my tropical tank. None of them cause any harm to the other fish in the tanks. In my experience zebras are the most aggressive and even worse when they are not kept in a big enough group. Keep 1 or 2 zebras and...

    Shubunkins/goldfish

one of the goldfish is a bit bigger but the other are all the same size. The fish thats nipping doesn't appear to be flicking but maybe he is. I have already suggested treating with sterazin, (for flukes) so we'll have to try that. We did remove the fish that was nipping so we should probably...

    Shubunkins/goldfish

Ok thank you. One last question though - can shubunkins get aggressive? My friend has a coldwater tank with 3 shubunkins and 2 goldfish (60 gallon tank with excellent water levels) and one of the shubunkins keeps nipping at the bodies of the other fish. It hasn't done any damage but the other...

    Shubunkins/goldfish

Do shubunkins grow and therfore need as much space, in tank terms, as a goldfish?

    What's wrong?

Don't know what's killed the other fish. That's the problem. All I know is One minute I had a lively thriving tank and within a week I had a BIG problem!

    redness/bleeding gill

finished the 5 day course of myxacin and the redness has gone! Do you think I should still quarantine him longer or put him back with the others in the tank. He's very lively now and feeding well.

    weather loaches

I have a coldwater tank currently housing 2 goldfish. I would like to add 1 or 2 weather loaches. Are they like goldfish in that they produce a lot of waste?

    What's wrong?

My neighbour has just bought fish from the same place. I nabbed her water and tested in and WOW! The ph of the water is off my scale. I tested my tank water and as stated above it's still 8. The water from the shop is however at least 8.8 that's the highest reading on my chart so it could be...

    What's wrong?

Ok, but what can I do about saving the remaining fish. How about gutting the tank. I have another coldwater tank that I use as a quarantine tank. It's coldwater but I could add a heater for now. Problem is its quite small, only a 24 litre. And if I do this should I replace everything from my...

    What's wrong?

Ok here goes. Lots of questions to answer. If the tank was overstocked it certainly isn't now. The neons were definately not 2 inches long anyhow. As for the nitrate, my tapwater has a nitrate level of 20 so my levels are actually not too bad. On the question of whether I poured the water...

    What's wrong?

I have a fluval 3 filter. and an elite 100w heater. I did change the heater about 3 months ago because the light went on the old one and I couldn't tell whether it was working. The tank temperature is steady at 24-25 degrees. Is this too cold?

    my tank

thanks I will try that. :)

    What's wrong?

Tank size is 24 x 18 x 18 inches. All the fish came from the same shop apart from the danios. Water change is 20% weekly. All fish were acclimatised by floating the bag for approx 20 mins, then adding tank water at 5 minute intervals for another 15 minutes. The ph is quite high I think at...

    What's wrong?

I have had a tropical tank for 10 years now. Over the 10 years fish came and went until I was left with only 1 yellow barb. (Some lived long lives others not so long but never a real problem with the tank) I decided it was time to restock the tank so over the last year I have added: 1 small...

    danio lifespan?

Thanks for all the replies. I have had my danios for 18 months now and they are doing great. I did lose one when I first bought them but none since. I had heard the saying 'small fish live short lives' so I thought mine were doing great. Still got them for a long while then I hope. Two have...

    redness/bleeding gill

He's not gasping for air at all. I have a lot of fish in my 65gallon tank. I have 8 and I know you're all gonna say that's too many but I have 2 filters, an air pump and do at least once a week water change. Ammonia level = 0 Nitrite level = 0 Nitrate level = between 15 and 25 PH level = 8 I...

    redness/bleeding gill

No flicking or rubbing against anything. He's not gasping either. I will get some fluke medecine and see. Thanks.

    redness/bleeding gill

It's difficult to describe. It's definately not red streaks. It's more like a rash and it hasn't affected either the gill shape or covering other than the redness. The fin look fine too apart from the redness. I have added 2 doses of myxacin and he is definately perking up. Eating better and is...

    redness/bleeding gill

I have just moved one of my common coldfish from my tank to a quarantine tank because he has redness around one of his gills and front fin on the same side. He appears much thinner than my other fish and sometimes seems lethargic. The other fish are all fine. I cannot treat him until I have some...

    hi and help

Hi, I am not a newbie to keeping fish but am a newbie to the forum so first things first - hello to everyone. Now down to business - I have a common goldfish who seems to be losing weight and just recently I have noticed reddening around its right gill and right fin. He often seems lethargic but...
