    Interbreeding?

I'll have to check the water again on Monday and let you know. I use a dipstick there (use a kit at home, but at school, the dipsticks are safer) and everything has been in the "safe" range. At the moment, I have 3 high-fin platy males, 3 female guppies and the fry...and an overabundance of...

    Interbreeding?

Oops, they're high-fin PLATYS, not tetras, duh... :dunno:

    Interbreeding?

I have a 20-gallon tank at school, which my kids just love to watch. However, my male guppy and the female high-fin tetra have both died...why, I have no idea. There are about 12 baby guppies in the tank now. Will the 2 fish interbreed? I know I need to get at least 2 more female tetras, but...

    Snails

I have 2 "Golden Mystery Snails" (from PetsMart) in my tank at school, and now I'm overwhelmed with babies (I squish them and feed them to the fish). BUT...I have 2 more "Golden Mystery Snails (from Petco, and smaller) and no babies in the tank. Could they be 2 different types? Or are the...

    Water level sinking?

What kind of filtration system do you have? I have the "waterfall" type on 2 of my tanks, and lose more water daily on those than on the one with the undergravel system. Good luck! :)

    New aquarium

I agree, there is no substitute for marine! (Unfortunately, just can't do that without the proper tank, and at this point in time I have neither the space nor the money...someday... ) Long ago, in my other (married; Florida) life, we had 2 salt-water tanks, one we stocked from our...

    Goldfish?

    Goldfish?

I know that this isn't the goldfish/koi forum, but there's only one post and it's over a year old. I just want to know if I can put 2 small comets into a tank with 2 larger ones. I got 4 of the small $.25 comets for my grandson over a year ago, and they're 2-3" long now. 2 of them died and...

    Hatching baby brine shrimps guide

MANY years ago (back in the late 60's and early 70's) we had saltwater tanks (one that we bought stock for, and a bay tank, in which we kept stuff we caught with a seine...what fun!). We had seahorses in the bay tank, and there were always babies around. Anyway, my point is that back then...

    New aquarium

I'm getting ready to re-do my 20 gallon tank, which crashed a while back (I used some fizzy algae killer tabs and got a huge bacteria bloom...yuck). I'm a few weeks away from stocking it yet, but I saw a tank at a PetsMart that had white sand (I'll use white gravel instead), marine-type...

    Slimy walls

Oops, didn't put the water parameters. I didn't have time to check today, but I will do so tomorrow.

    Slimy walls

I have a 20 gallon tank in my classroom. I'm just getting it back together since all of my fish died (about 3 weeks ago)when I used a certain water conditioner (back to plain old dechlorinator for me!). I started with just the one female guppy that survived, changed out about half of the...

    What the hell? A snail?

How about plants? Have you bought those recently? Sometimes they have snail eggs on them if there are snails in those tanks. And all it takes is one snail (in most cases) to create a snail explosion! I just squash the little ones and the fish eat them. :dunno:

    20 gal tank

I am getting ready to re-do my 20-gallon tank. I put a certain type of water conditioner in it and everything died! So, I'm trashing everything in the tank and starting over. I want to put white gravel and marine-type decorations in it, to make it look marine-like without the hassle. I just...

    "New" tank

I'm going to totally trash my 20-gallon tank (all the fish died when I put a certain water conditioner in it) and start over again with it. I saw a gorgeous tank at a PetsMart that had the look of a marine tank (sand in the bottom and marine decorations) but stocked with cichlids. I would love...

    Fish have all died!

I have been keeping fish (and other critters) for years, both at school and at home. I prefer livebearers at school because my 3rd graders love watching the babies. Well, I got hold of a copy of an aquarium magazine, and decided that what I've been doing for all those years was breaking all...

    Hello!

I'm new to the forum, but have been keeping tropicals (and other critters) for years, both in my classroom and at home. I prefer livebearers at school, because my 3rd graders get such a kick out of seeing the babies. Now I'm going to another forum, because I used a new water conditioner and...
