Discus mafia and pricing fish way beyond their worth

I guess suppliers charge what people are willing to pay for them though? Is it really greed or is it just that that’s their value on an open market? That’s obviously assuming there’s decent competition between sellers.

How often do you do water changes?

My Koi is trying to Jump out of water, why?

Please, please, please listen to what everyone in this thread is saying and return the fish and obtain something more suitable to your tanks. I’m sure you’re not deliberately trying to be cruel and want to do the best for the fish in your care but it’s so upsetting to hear what you’re putting...

    Buyer beware beware

I ordered all of my initial aquarium stuff from swell. The tank turned up perfect as they used a heavy goods courier. Two other boxes were sent with yodel, the first turned up completely smashed and the second never turned up at all. Swell refunded me for the first and resent the 2nd with dpd...

    Cory cats are addicting

The one thing that keeps coming up is providing them with sand, and the more I read the more I feel guilty about only having gravel (it’s smooth and has caused no injuries but I know that’s not the point). Anyone got any suggestions about ways to introduce a small amount of sand into a tank...

    Cory cats are addicting

They’re definitely fun to watch. I’ve only been keeping fish since the end of last year and my community tank included 7 panda cories, who have since multiplied to more than 30. Most people seem to agree they should be kept in bigger groups of their own kind though (5+) and I’d definitely agree...

CrowdStrike Falcon shutting down systems last Frday

Servers and critical endpoints should have backups, yes, but the process of restoring all those backups would take time if you’d lost multiple devices. Thankfully the company I work for wasn’t affected but the issue if we had been (which I suspect is the case for many places) is that the fix was...

Ok, RO water only, and tons of plants… what do I likely need to add to the water for both the fish, and plants???

There's loads of information on this site and Google about reverse osmosis. Probably best you search for it and read through rather than someone copy and pasting it all here for you.

If pleco live with bumble bee goby, will pleco steal bumble bee goby food?

You've been given an answer. I suppose if you want a literal answer it is no they won't, because they'll never be found in the same water.

No needing advice just a comment

I'm still very new to the hobby and found the same thing. There is so much conflicting information out there that its no surprise people make mistakes. I'm learning which sites and people I trust (this forum being one of them), and then ignoring the others.

    Water change n quality

Yeah I do get you. I'm on my way for a 2 week holiday so my fish are on their own for a bit. I've done plenty of water changes and cleaning, and set the auto feeder up to feed lightly every other day. I believe my stocking level and water parameters when I left will be fine to get them through...

    Water change n quality

As others have said, it is possible to do it less frequently with a lightly stocked tank but ultimately its up to us to do what's best for the fish. Just keep an eye on the water quality and do changes as soon as it gets bad if you don't want to commit to a routine every 7 days.

    Guppy paralyzed?

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like there's probably not much I could have done by the time I found her then? Thank you.:).

    Guppy paralyzed?

I had to put one of my guppies down yesterday as she was clearly suffering and I couldn't let it continue. Was wondering what it could have been though in case it happens again and there's something I could do with the right treatments. Basically I came home to find her lying on the bottom of...

    Lots of Pandas

The little one really are! It'll be interesting to see what the tank is like when they're all fully grown. I haven't moved into live plants yet but had some little tufts of fake grass "planted" for a while and that seemed to be where the fry were escaping to in order to hide. I've removed that...

    Lots of Pandas

Set up my first (50g) tank in October, bought 7 Panda Cories (as well as 4 guppies and 11 neon tetra). At last count I now have at least 23. Other than being slightly worried the tank is going to become overstocked, it's great to see so many of them wiggling along the bottom. Not sure how much...

Will the population keep itself under control?

Thanks, it's good to have an opinion on how many pandas it can support as that's one of the things I've been wondering. The guppies in fairness seem to be keeping themselves under control. I've never seen one of them actually giving birth but I've looked in the tank one evening to see 20 to 30...

Will the population keep itself under control?

I've actually managed to get some photos that are better than blurs. One is of the youngest I can spot in the tank, I seem to have 2 or 3 currently at this stage, and the other is of one who is I reckon 2 to 3 months old next to an adult. It sounds like I've been really lucky to have successful...

Will the population keep itself under control?

Thanks Gary, I have no idea what I've done correctly for them to successfully breed. I guess beginners luck? Fingers crossed it does stop before the numbers get too high.

Will the population keep itself under control?

Ah that's a great photo! I've not noticed any fry at that stage so they must be hiding well. The youngest I've seen already have the beginning of black markings on their heads, with the tail still looking similar to yours. You're probably right that as the guppies increase in numbers the...

Will the population keep itself under control?

They do lay eggs I believe, yes, although I haven't seen any yet so they must be hiding them well. I can't give details of how many eggs are being laid vs hatching vs making it to the stage I notice them, all I know is they've more than doubled in numbers since I got them. They are definitely...

Will the population keep itself under control?

Hi, I set up my first tank a few months ago, it's 150 litres (40 US Gallons?). I started with 3 female guppies and 1 male, 7 panda cories and then later added 11 black neon tetras. I was a little nervous after reading about the guppies that they can breed out of control. but so far I only seem...

    Hello!

Hi, I recently got into fish keeping, setting myself up a 150 litre aquarium. I'm aiming to just keep it a peaceful community tank and so far I've got a few guppies, some black neon tetras and some panda cories. Love the pandas but they seem to be multiplying very quickly... if they carry on...
