If the siphon doesn’t work, it could be because the water in the tank and the water in the bucket are at about the same level. Can you lower the bucket that you siphon the water into so that it is at least 0.5m or 2 feet below the water in the tank?

If you want to speed up the process you need to fully submerge the wood in water. That will mean removing the wood from the paludarium and drop it in a bucket of water, keep changing the water every week or so until the tannins have leached out - then put it back in the paludarium.

I use Eheim heaters and Hygger lights. But when going away for more than a few days, I turn the hyggers off and replace them with normal lights with mechanical timers because the hyggers will lose the clock memory when there’s a power outage.
