    Argggg Stupid Siphon...

I was doing a water change today using a gravel siphon. My neons (10) were hovering around the siphon (they aren't afraid of my hands anymore.) One of them, being overly curious, swims into the siphon  He gets sucked down into my bucket, still alive. I managed to catch him and put him...

    New internal filter

You're probably fine, 2-3 weeks should be more than enough time for a filter to pick up established bacteria

    Mollies

That's kinda weird CFC mollies aren't full blown saltwater fish I would't think that they would survive in a marine tank. Feeding the babies to the Lionfish is pretty cold...

    Aqua UV sterilizer

I'm not used to the metric system so I don't know whatall that says, but my guess is that if it has a UV bulb and proper waterflow you'll get the same results as with any other sterilizer

    Low-Light Plants

Thanks for all the species names, I will be sure to look into them at my LFS. My water is very hard about 10 degrees GH and ph 7.5 with a 75 degree temperature (Farenheit of course)

    Any algae eaters besides plecs?

Cichlid Freak's right your plants will get shredded if you go with pleco's. I have an Algae Eater and he only eats algae, they harass slow moving fish though so watch out. they get large and aggressive too

    Employees at Petco

I didn't realize there were any freshwater puffers. However the employees at Petco do not know jack about fish. I ask a question, and I get duhhhhhhh, maybe. I'll stick with a fish store that has employees with an IQ above that of a butterfly.

    Marine Set up

Don't give up on saltwater so soon, 75 gallon's is plenty you just need to get fish with personality, not just one's that look cool. I know about the whole money thing too I'm 14 and have a limited budget as well. Here's an idea: get you parents into the hobby it's educational, scientific etc...

FrankWhatever is right, you don't want to use ocean water, too many risks involved. But tell your coworker not to worry salt isn't that expensive neither is water ;)

    how do dwarf gouramis breed>????

Dwarf Gouramis breed by building nests out of bubbles at the surface of the water. Usually you need floating plant and calm water conditions to both induce breeding and allow the nest to survive. If you really want to know more, (water conditions etc.) I reccomend buying a book about breeding...

    Anyone have experience?

Neon tetras make a nice display, when they school it looks really neat... Anyhoo, you could probably have five in that tank if your careful, they're really small so it should be a problem. I have 10 and I am going for 20... :)

    Acrylic tanks

In my opinion acrylic is superior to glass. It is thermally more efficient (I.E. it retains it's temperature) so you are less likely to lose fish from heat waves, or during the winter. As stated it is lighter, more than 4 times a strong and 25% clearer. the only issue is cost. an acrylic tank...

    Bacterial Infection

Threadfin butterfly has reddening pitting around the mouth, anyone know know of anyway to administer any kind of anti-biotic without crashing filter/liverock. other than an extra tank?

    green water

How old is the tank? it could be you just haven't gone through the entire algae cycling process. If your tank is only 18 gallonsI doubt that there are any filters to small for it... if you are worried about that, try adding another of the same kind, or some kind of bio-media

    cycling with live plants

I used live plants to cycle my tank. They work great, they introduce alot of beneficial bacteria, etc right away, I never really even had a normal cycling period, There was never more than 1 ppm ammonia and never any nitrites/nitrates.

Why can't I just grab stuff from the ocean?

If you live in San Francisco there is a FANTASTIC LFS in Hayward, Aquarium Concepts, it focuses on marine, so they have a huge selection, most of their stock is healthy and they know ALOT about marine compatibility/feeding etc. Reasonable prices too.

    Live Rock

Depends how big the crabs are, my bluelegs never bother my turbos... Course my chaetodon auriga ate all the snails AND all the crabs but still. Beware of buying normal rock to serve as a skeletal base for liverock. live rock is a coral skeleton, thus it has an ENOURMOUS amount of surface are...

    Mucho Dinero

Great Lakes is right, even the cheapest marine livestock is probably more than you'd ever pay for a freshwater fish. I wouldn't get that 10-Gallon set-up no matter what it cost (okay well, maybe if it were free) because 10 gallons is to small for a stable saltwater environment, having Fish in...

MY DWARF LIONFISH REFUSES TO EAT!!

Lionfish and family Scorpaenidae in general will not eat frozen or flake foods. But don't despair you can slowly wean them onto frozen, etc by feeding a mix of live and Frozen Foods, gradually increasing the amount of frozen food in the mix. It's hard, but lionfish are so beautiful it's worth...

    glow gravel

I wouldn't add glow in the dark gravel for two reasons, 1) You don't know what makes it glow, phosphurs, probably, these could bleed into your water and kill your fish. 2) How comfortable are the fish going to be with the gravel glowing. I have to disagree with Impur, gravel is like dirt, only...

do i cut off leaves with holes in them?

It depends what the leaf looks like, do you think this is some kind of problem with the plant itself, or something made a whole in it. (Snail, person, whatever) If it is a problem with the plant itself you should cut the leaf off because it will divert energy to that leaf even if it is going to...
