Copepods or seed shrimps - maybe? The ones in my cherry shrimp tank look just like your photo. Do they move around? If so, they are probably these harmless, tiny crustaceans. On another thread someone suggested that Endler’s livebearers might like to eat them......

OK - I think the bucket and pipette method is the way to go. (And I just happen to have a white bucket and a wide end pipette available!) Thanks for the help everybody. I hope the new babies will be grateful..... I just couldn’t bear the idea of being a mass shrimp-killer...

Thanks, but I think that herding them anywhere is a non-starter - I can’t even see them without a magnifying glass most of the time! The fine mesh over the inlet tube of the water siphon might be possible tho’......

My cherry shrimp tank has a swarm of tiny, tiny baby shrimp. Which is great..... it’s the first time one of my females has had a large brood. However, I have a practical problem. How do I manage a water change without sucking up all the lovely babies? All sensible suggestions gratefully accepted!

Re. My previous post - just worked out that my pond has about 5600 litres of water.

I can add another 154 litres in tanks (Plus a 6ft x 11ft x 3ft deep goldfish pond in the garden - but I don’t know if that counts towards the total. It needs attention every day at the moment as we’re in “green slime algae explosion” season in the UK.)

Marmite is the work of the devil!! Peanut butter and marmalade sandwiches are pretty good, though.....

I’m sticking by my original idea of a coelenterate of some kind. There are literally thousands of types with multiple numbers of tentacles - and I think it’s in there somewhere! It’s the way it moves......

Re. Superglue repairs..... The giant snail (19cm long shell) fell off the wall onto a concrete floor in front of my class of 6 yr. old children. The shell was in several large bits and the kids were really upset as they had been caring for the snail for nearly a year. The zoo suggested superglue...

OK - I assume that the BN is not getting better? Given that you are in the UK you might be able to get some sensible advice / positive identification if you contact somewhere like the aquarium section of London Zoo. I‘ve found them to be very helpful in the past when I needed emergency advice...

Jamie - have these things got bigger since you started watching them? Are they actively interfering with the fish’s breathing?

Re. Tentacles - the mystery organism has at least 6 (possibly more) very obvious moveable appendages radiating out from a central trunk with a central orifice which may well be a mouth. So I think they qualify as tentacles...... I googled the word and it just stated ‘invertebrate feeding appendage‘.

The tentacles show really well on the original video. In the still pics. everything just looks like a fungal infection and they don’t show the full scope of this thing. I think this may not be a ‘parasite’ - as in an organism which has a specific host which it exploits - but just something...
