How many fancy guppies and nerite snails

What about a shrimp tank? My kids LOVED looking for the shrimp in our tank after we put them in. We initially thought they'd all been eaten when we first put them in as I was silly and didn't do my research before buying, so the excitement was warranted when we saw a couple of shrimp after...

    Care for molly littleuns

I’ve found I have at least 3 fry mollies in my tank (I could see the female molly was looking pretty large). Any care advice for the little ones? Food suggestions, etc? Different water change cycles/etc? apparently I also have baby shrimp… anything I should think about with them?

What Fish Do You Regret Buying?

Guppies. The kids were distraught when we lost a couple of them, although that was my own fault really. I saw someone (on a different forum) say "Throw a couple of guppies in the tank for the fish in cycling process", not realising that some people do this as (I believe) they see them as...

What Fish Do You Regret Buying?

Throw a couple of assassin snails in there. I had a bit of a snail problem, and stuck ~8 assassin snails in my tank. Now there are just empty shells around :) I think the assassin snails are taking each other out now, but I'm fine with that unless there are eggs/baby snails that I haven't seen...

    Question re: nano tank setup

I had to get another tank set up over the weekend after one of my fish started being poorly. As a side note, he's a bit bloated, seems to be tilted over to one side slightly (although I'm not sure if he's able to see his reflection in the bottom of the quarantine tank and thats why he's tilted)...

Adding shrimp, but I made a big mistake...

I actually buried a bag full of lava rock in the aquarium, behind teh bunker entrance to raise up the level of the soil. I was initially annoyed by this suggestion, as the soil collapsed and now the top of the bag is on show, but luckily hidden away behind the plants (on the left of the tank)...

Adding shrimp, but I made a big mistake...

I'm also considering when I'm ready to release, squeeze the top of the net closed, and release them down in amongst the plants, so they dont have to make a frantic dash for cover. I'd love to set up another tank, but my "spare parts" are in use by a friend! I wish I'd got them back off him...

Adding shrimp, but I made a big mistake...

Hi all, I got over-excited when seeing shrimp for sale online, and bought a selection. I (very stupidly) assumed that they'd be fine to put in the tank with my mollies, penguin tetras, golden barbs, platy, and siamese flying fox (there's also some oto's in there too, but I've read they are good...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

The great thing about this is, that you can just keep adding stuff to it over time... I didn't cover the bottom of the tank in a lego panel, I just put one that was about 20cm x 40cm. What I really should have done was cover the entire bottom of the tank with one so no matter where I wanted to...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

Its better in real life, as its not fixed to anything, so both the ship and the glider) move with the flow of the water coming from the pump. You can see two lines underneath the ship, and if you look REALLY closely, you can see them under the ewok glider too... I stole my dads ultra thin clear...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

A final pic (we finally got round to building the last few Lego sets), unless I decide to add more plants. You can’t quite see it properly, but there’s an Ewok on a hang glider floating over by the filter box on the right… The ship is looking filthy now, but it was a NIGHTMARE to get set up in...

    Seaspiracy

I ended up watching the second half of this last night, as my wife was already in bed watching it... Very eye-opening... We've decided to see what alternatives we can get w.r.t. fish on the menu, even though we love fish for dinner. We Googled the company who were advocating the "plant based...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

An update... We have a few lego pieces in there now, as well as some fish! Check out the ground... :) There's more Lego to go in there this weekend when it turns up, then its almost complete. I still need to order more plants though to make it a little more moody and forest like...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

Awesome, I’ll check that out... I’m after a fluffy surface grower to kind of replicate a rain forest canopy, and add a bit more “moodiness” to the scene. I’m using a bit of artistic licence with the movie scene, as I want it light enough to be able to see the fish, along with enough of an open...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

We’ll likely have some of the Lego in this weekend. I had to get the bunker 3D printed, which cost me an arm and a leg, but worth it I think. My wife was horrified to see me get it out the box then immediately take a drill to the back of it so I could run an air tube to slowly fill it up with...

Yes, that’s the one I was thinking about! Thanks! Any suggestions for surface growers would be appreciated too...!

Should I do a water change...

Sorry, I forgot to add that I'd initially (on the same day of getting the tank set up) put in some fish flakes to add as an ammonia source. I didn't put in a handful, just a healthy pinch. As far as I've been able to find out, it takes approximately 3 days for fish food to start breaking down...

My first aquarium in a LONG time...

I initially posted introducing myself saying that I was going for a planted aquarium, trying to replicate a famous movie scene. Well, now that the aquarium is put together, I'm happy to share photos ;) I was going for the Moon of Endor scene from Star Wars, but this is my first foray into...

Should I do a water change...

Let me put some context around this question... I built my tank up last weekend, using Tropica aquarium soil, plants. and (washed) small grained gravel/sand, then put in the water conditioner to dechlorinate the water, and some bio-boost (essentially to add some healthy bacteria). Tropica...

Anyone UK based have recommendations for sourcing substrate?

As per the title, I’m looking for a specific look/colour scheme for the inactive substrate/sand for my freshwater tank. Plants will be going around the back of the tank, but I want an open section at the front dirt to the scene I’m putting together, I want an open area where I can set up the eye...

    LED light suggestions

I’m nearly ready to order the lights for my tropical freshwater tank setup, and am after some LED light suggestions... I do like the 24 hour cycle ones, where you can switch to moonlight setting, as my 4 year olds and 6 year old will love seeing the aquarium in the different lights. I’m going to...

Hi there from South East UK

Hi all, Setting up a tank after ~30 years of not keeping fish, so I'm sure a lot has changed in the mean time! I have 3 young boys that are excited to get this setup moving, so I'm here looking to learn as much as I can on a tropical freshwater set up. Not sure if I should describe what I'm...
