Cycling My Tank, Got Chloroform Into It

Had some chloroform in a small bottle (school project), wasn't thinking clearly at 2am in the morning and transferred it to a plastic vial  and put it on top of the tank where the light sits. Of course the thing dissolved in a couple minutes time, and a couple spoonfuls got into the tank...

    Cycling

Started my fishless cycle about a week ago. Stats right now are 2 ppm nitrites, and about 3 ppm ammonia. What's next? Do I wait till ammonia is almost gone before, then do a big water change before adding any fish?

    Help - Rapid Finrot?

The Jungle Fungus Clear says that a 25% water change could be done after 4 days, and then re-dose the full amount. Should I follow this? Or do a 100% water change and redose, since he's in a bowl?

    Help - Rapid Finrot?

so sorry to hear that :( . I flipped out when I saw Deuce like that. The temperature stays at 74, however I've been using a desklamp (fairly far away mind you) and the temp has stayed steady at 77 for about 8 hours now. ammonia, nitrites, nitrates are all 0 (due to everyday water changes)...

    Help - Rapid Finrot?

I switched my male from the spawning tank back to a bowl recently, and decided to cover it with a dark shirt so he could get reaquainted with his surroundings. Anyways I removed the shirt a day later to take a look at him, and about a third of the way into the caudal, most of the fin is...

Went To The Lfs For Bloodworms....

Hm yes they do bear quite the similarity! But the father's irridescence down his rays look really nice and more even :) . I think he looks part plakat, since he's not flaring, but still has a fairly perky-looking caudal (er I'm by no means an expert though). All in all your bettas = :hyper...

Went To The Lfs For Bloodworms....

I knew I should have avoided the betta shelf, but the bf pointed out this cutie - and I was smitten!! We put him next to another boy for a second to check out his feisty-ness, and turns out he's a much more passive wee one, and hence the name Obi. Obi: He's really quite peachy in...

I wish you guys were closer!

Hi fishykisses! I'm from Vancouver as well (Burnaby), and may be interested in having them for my female community tank :) Do you know if they'd work well in a community? I have 2 girls in mine right now, and they're both about an inch and a bit.

    Babe and Deuce's spawn journal!

definitely going to take the plunge...

Hmm yes marianne at bcbettas (where I got them from) is also of the opinion that no chemicals should be used. I really don't want anything bad to happen though, considering that I'm keeping all fry in one grow out... What is the cause of fungus usually?
  21. H

definitely going to take the plunge...

so for the grow out, a couple of sponge filters will do?
  22. H

definitely going to take the plunge...

thanks, meg! perhaps I could section off part of the 33 gallon, and fill the water halfway to create a smaller space....hmmm any other ideas anyone?
  23. H

definitely going to take the plunge...

That's great mac, just don't mix males and females together!!! make sure to start a thread when you get them :)

definitely going to take the plunge...

And here again are the un-knowing couple: This is Deuce, blue super delta (green when using camera flash though) And the lucky lady, Babe :) But I have some questions though... what kind of filtration should I get for a 33 gallon? can the 33 gallon also be used as a spawning tank...

my fish finally arrived! (pics included)

ahh Synirr, I'm really considering breeding them now, whilst I gaze at my empty tank... Am I able to use my 33 gallon as both a spawning and growout tank until I can sex them?? Or is it too big for them to spawn in? And what kind of filtration do I need?? Right now there's a fluval 4 plus in...

ATM they're still un-named.... first up is a pretty masked blue girl: I know, I'm so horrible, taking bright pictures while they're still acclimatizing..... I was just so eager though next is a yellow-ish plakat female and a not-so-opaque girly: When i first opened the box, I was...

    multiple fin rips

Yep unfiltered 2 gallon tank...there are some silk plants, gravel (not really sharp I'd say, like regular gravel), and a ceramic pot. I just did a 100% water change and will pick up some aq salt tomorrow. How much should I add? And how long should I wait for results to show? Is there any...

    multiple fin rips

Sorry to have to post something thats probably a repeat, but the search function doesn't work for me for some reason :/ Max has developed what looks like clean rips in his fins. This is a before pic to refer to the locations... At first it was only a tiny rip on one side of that extra...

  37. H

    small mbuna

Thanks for the info Ferris!! Blah, I do have a 55, but it needs resiliconing and a new canopy...oh well - the cichlid in your avatar is stunning... Wondering why they have to be kept in groups of 3?? I don't think they specify genders at the LFS, how would I know what I have?
  39. H

    small mbuna

Was wondering what are some nice species of mbuna that stay relatively small?? I'm planning on setting up a 33 gallon cichlid tank. Also how many could I put in my tank? I do like the electric yellows... Also is the cichlid mix substrate necessary? pH of my water is 7.8, don't know KH though...
