    Fertiliser dosing

Yeah I get the idea of EI dosing but have started at just 50% of the dose and just doing it by hand to start instead of the auto doser. If this plan works il hook it up and forget about it. I have very high lighting available from a radion led which is only running at 40% and don't think the...

    finally happy

Very nice, everyone likes a shuffle around now and then. Brings fresh ideas. Also I agree the black background makes the colours pop in the tank

Yeah I was thinking soon as in waiting till around the 2 month mark. Although in my last tropical tank they were in after 1 month and didn't loose any. But I'm not rushing. My pH is around 6.2 anyway so nutrients are going to be far less toxic as is.

Perfect thanks chaps. At the moment just 15 harlequin rasbora and a pair of kribensis. It's only 3 weeks old now, thinking a shoal of Cardinals will be joining pretty soon.

Just removed a large piece of bogwood out to make more planting room. Which do you think looks better, before or after? As you can see the wood was taking up a lot of space and I think distracting, agree or no? Just waiting for the s. Repens to be cut and fill in the bottom right corner. Cheers

    Fertiliser dosing

Just had a read up and decided on EI dosing so picked up a kit of powders mixes that I can put through the auto doser.

    Fertiliser dosing

Ahh thanks for the explanation. So I need to find a suppliment that is complete and able to be dosed daily really. If anyone does this I'd like to know their product. I did look at the nutrients company as they are local to me. I will add that il have a decent amount of fish though so I think...

    Fertiliser dosing

Hi all, iv had my tank going a few weeks and all is well. It's pretty heavily planted, well lit and co2 injected. Which fertiliser would you say is a good all in one solution? I have flourish and the co2 system came with some ferropol. I was hoping to be able to just hook something up to my...

    Co2 setup help

The is livestock in, 15 rasboras and a pair of kribs. Still cycling really. The drop checker is a premixed jbl one, il move it near the diffuser and see what it says tomorrow. Cheers

    Co2 setup help

It's the clear jbl tube that spirals the bubbles up. The test has stayed a dark green so far as I upped the amount of co2 to something like 4-5 bubbles per second

    Co2 setup help

Ok yeah maybe, Just this morning iv added a split to the return nozzel and powered up the return pump to 4000lph so the flow is pushing a bit more on both side of the tank now. I also took the drop checker out and blew in it, it did turn green so that's fine I think. Put it back in and raised...

How to Take mineral out of fish tank to soften water

No I got it at a local fish shop and added a Di resin section to get 0tds

    Lost two corycats... cause?

Just a tip, I have never put store water in my tanks. Just acclimatise and net fish out of water.

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

I don't like the fact that people want to keep lots of small groups of fish that do better in numbers. Like 6 neons, 6 rasboras, 6 penguin tetras, 6 lemon tetras, 6 Cory's. I think a couple of large groups are much nicer for the viewer and the fish.

How to Take mineral out of fish tank to soften water

Oh I didn't realise everyone was getting a water meter. Used to make 75 litres a week on my old tank, that would of cost a bit as I only got 1 part rodi to 4 parts waste lol

    BRAND NEW! HELP!

I'd like to add something about the test kits. Years ago I used to keep tropical and used API test kits. Then went to marine and used Salifert kits, I found the Salifert much better and can measure nitrate down to 1ppm. Now come back to tropical and I'm using the Salifert kits still on...

How to Take mineral out of fish tank to soften water

I would buy an ro unit instead of buying ro water from fish shop. Will work out cheaper in the long run, and less pain lugging barrels around. Mine was about £100

Balancing my flow with the sump

Cheers everyone, I'm happy with it. Soooo much less work and stress than the reef tank

    Enough plants?

Cheers, I think I might just finish it off with some moss and anubias on the wood. And then plenty of fish of course ☺️

Balancing my flow with the sump

My 250 litre reef tank evaporated around 2 litres a day so I don't think it's unusual.

Balancing my flow with the sump

Yes that's a good point too. Ro water can be bought at many fish shops but simple to plumb your own in under a sink etc
  34. C

Balancing my flow with the sump

You should start by switching off the return pump and making sure the sump doesn't overflow as a precaution. But yes I totally think this is evaporation. You can buy ato sets online if you look it up, and the compartment will be for this. My sump has a separate small tank above filled with...

    From salt to tropical

Il be keeping Cardinals and rasboras. Maybe one other species down the line. Would people suggest 20-30-50? Not too sure Also another question I have is regarding the lighting.. I'm using my existing ecotech radion xr30 that was used on the reef. But obviously iv switched out the profile to a...

    From salt to tropical

I kind of know what fish are suitable, my water is soft at around 2dkh, pH at the moment won't be stable as the soil is lowering it at the moment. I'm just wondering about stocking numbers tetra and rasboras?
  39. C

Balancing my flow with the sump

Having just come from a saltwater setup with sump, I would say it's from evaporation. The whole surface area of the tank will evaporate water and the only place you will see a change in levels is in the return section of the sump. Do you have an auto top off to replace the evaporated water? This...

    From salt to tropical

Hey all, Iv just broke down my gorgeous mixed lps/sps reef tank that was running for a few years. Mainly because of worry and stress about something going wrong. With new kids aswell time was getting less and less. Bit of a shame really but did have lots of fun with it. Anyway moving onwards, iv...
