    Help with Sunfish and Bluegill

I am working on getting gravel for these guys. The biggest bags I can get are 5 lbs, which is ridiculously small for a 100 gallon tank. My local pet stores don't have much in stock. So I have to get a little each time I go and wait for them to restock. Supply chains still suck and inflation...

Do not use anti-biotics unless you know what the problem is.

So I am a trained Vet Tech and I had to learn extensively about anti-biotics. They do have a place in medicine, but with that being said, the real danger with them comes from NOT FINISHING THE FULL TREATMENT. Colin is correct, there is Gram Negative and Gram Positive bacteria. Even as...

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

Well... now he's got a patch of white fuzz on his gill, so I think he's got a fungal infection. He's got white growth all over. Time to pull out the salt and/or meds. I've never added salt to Bluegill before though. 🤔

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

That's terrible a plant took out your whole tank. I learned the hard way to never buy their fish anymore either. I've had a very rough time with mail order fish. Probably because I live in Colorado and either our hot summers or freezing cold winters will kill them. The USPS isn't so great at...

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

When I first put him back in last night he was on his side. Today he was swimming normal, but hiding in a corner of the tank, so made it hard to see his damaged side at first. So I moved him to a quiet 10 gallon to recover by himself with lots of fake plant cover (I don't do live plants in my...

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

It's actually not with Bluegill, it is legal to take them out of the wild and keep alive or dead because they are considered a bait fish. I did my research.

What to do if your fish gets sick

Just FYI, 20 litres is roughly 5 US Gallons if you don't want to have to Google it. Wish we'd just switch to Metric

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

It's a total just Bluegill tank. A 100 gallon. He's in a 10 gallon hospital tank currently so the other fish don't bother him. I should say a Sunfish tank though because I have Bluegill, some hybrids, and a few Sunfish. All the same family of fish though. He swims ok and seems to be mostly...

That sounds about right. If I ever buy fish from them again, which is highly doubtful, those fish would be in a quarantine tank for awhile!

Who the hell has a 5 gallon saltwater tank??? It could be done I suppose, but I see no purpose in that at all! Not even sure what fish you'd put in it! ????

That might be true lol, but who knows, maybe someone on here likes Petsmart/Petco 🤭

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

So Petsmart and Petco employees have horrible advice. I was told Gold Barbs would do  fine with guppies. They werent  fine, it was a catastrophe and I had to set up a tank just for the 10 Gold Barbs to be by themselves. They even go after Cory Cats and Algae Eaters. Just like Tiger Barbs...

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

I added 2 more photos, hopefully they're showing up. At first I thought he was just sloughing off his scales from drying out on the floor, but looking down on him it looks like some white growth around the edges. So I don't know if it's my original theory of him sloughing or if there's an...

Cories Panting - At a loss!

Hello! Sounds like you've had one heck of a time! Normally I wouldn't recommend homing anything with Bettas. There's constant debate on this on both sides, but in my long experience they have never done well with other fish... they tend to be too aggressive and chase anything that they think...

    Green Sunfish Needs Help

Hello all, I had a Green Sunfish (close relative to a Bluegill) jump out of my 100 gallon and wound up on the floor for a bit. I don't know how long he was out, but when I picked him up, he moved. I put him back in immediately and added some Stress Coat and Stress Guard. He looks to be doing...

    Help with Sunfish and Bluegill

That's what I was thinking also. I already did a water change and added some Stress Coat. Believe it or not, I'm working on getting substrate. I went to buy some and the shelves were empty. I finally managed to grab 3 5lb bags, but I know they won't be enough for that tank. So I'm...

Urgent!!! Betta pineconing scales and fin rot

My guess is Columnaris, which is difficult to get rid of. He also looks quite thin, I almost wonder if he has internal parasites. I'm no expert, but that is my guess. As far as meds, that's a tough one. Colin usually floats around here and seems to have the answers for this kind of stuff...

    What To Feed A Gar

My Bluegill probably have a similar diet. Their favorites are meal worms and they always pork out on them. They also love earthworms, bloodworms, brineshrimp, and probably minnows, although I haven't tried those. They'll even sneak some corn or bread balls off some carp bait, but I'm not sure...

    Help with Sunfish and Bluegill

Hi all. I absolutely love Bluegills and their close relatives. I have some wild caught in a 100 gallon aquarium. It's legal to have them, believe me, I checked. Moving on... two of them have pink colored lips with a little flesh wound. Is this a disease that someone knows of, or is this...

Do not use anti-biotics unless you know what the problem is.

As I've told you before, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using antibiotics IF YOU DO IT PROPERLY. Where the trouble comes is when people are prescribed an antibiotic and they don't complete the full course. People start feeling better, they stop taking it. Since not all of the bacteria...

    Fish with white on fins

Well, usually your advice is pretty good, but salt unfortunately doesn't cure everything, as evidenced. I lost the fish in the photo, he just kept getting worse and then my angelfish started biting at him, giving him more fungus. I think moving to a hospital tank would've been much less...

    Fish with white on fins

I was going to move him to a hospital tank for treatment. Is salt an effective treatment for fungus? If not, I think I have a few medicines around or could go purchase some. So far it's just the one fish.

    Fish with white on fins

Can I get some help identifying this? I am really tired, I started a new job that has me exhausted. I dont think it's ich, but maybe fungus? Hoping he's OK for overnight. I know my water is overdue for a change with my work schedule. Any help is appreciated. Will treat and do water change...

    Fish water makes dogs sick?

She feeds the dog everything. Let's it drink the milk from her cereal. I told her animals are lactose intolerant, didnt listen. She feeds it leftovers she doesn't want to eat. So I think this is more likely the cause than the water. All those things are in the tap water if they wind up in...

    Fish water makes dogs sick?

My roommate's dog was taking drinks out of my buckets while I was cleaning. I clean into buckets, cause I use it to water my indoor and outdoor plants. Then I refill from the sink. So far the doggy hasn't drank from the tank itself.

Help, Guppy Prolapse.... genetic or parasite?

FYI, Metronidazole in pets is mainly used against parasites. It is in the antibiotic class, but it's more used for parasites and a catch-all for intestinal problems in animals.

    Fish water makes dogs sick?

Kind of what I was thinking. The owner feeds the dog leftover human food also, I would think this would be more likely to cause it. I just want to be certain, so I know to keep the other animals out of it. She keeps saying the vet won't tell her what it is, so I'm frustrated and think it's a...

    Fish water makes dogs sick?

Hey all. I've seen similar posts before, and everyone says fish water is usually safe to drink. My roommate's dog got into my buckets of fish water, more than once, but all of the sudden the dog gets diarrhea and the roommate is blaming my water. I've had it in my mouth before, starting a...
