I have no idea who this person is. Please keep him away from my tank - my Nerites are rescues and get anxious when there are sudden movements, or people wave their hands about. They are cowering under an African sword at this very moment. It will take weeks to calm them down.

Yes - I'm expecting this. The ones we had before practically grew before our very eyes, like on one of those nature programmes where they use fast forward photography to show the seasons changing over a year in the Lake District in the space of 10 minutes or summat.

Thank you. They are fed once a day - a pinch of food. They also nibble the elodea, but that's it. I don't want to be constantly cleaning algae off the glass until they go outside. I'm aware that they will not be long in the aquarium, but I'm enjoying being able to watch them for the present...

I'm already doing them - twice a week! Goldies have an impressive (cough) "bioload". I've been here before - this is why I like them in a pond . . . well-filtered . . . then you can sit and watch them groooooow. :fish::fish::fish:

Something like a non-tropical equivalent of apleco or something - but preferably not too big! I've just got three small goldfish - they're presently in a 16g aquarium and will be going into a pond in the spring (don't want to put them out now as they are very small and we could be getting flash...

Where did you get your filter sponge from? Is that what it's actually marketed as? i get resentful having to replace cartridges (though I don't do it every month - I rinse them under the tap and re-use them a few times).

Is this recent? Is it in the North East? If so, can you DM me details - I'll take the poor little buggers!

Problem with assassins is that they lay eggs all over, and even if you take them out, and replace them with Nerites (who doesn't love Nerites?) those eggs will hatch and they'll go after your nice snails.

I crush my excess snails - the Amano shrimp deal with the corpses. I don't ask how. The less I know the better. All I know is that they have built a lot of tiny patios and seem to go through a lot of plastic sheeting and duct tape . . . the snails "sleep with the fishes" . . . Seriously -...

If it's any consolation I thought the same as you. My local fish are a bit easier to deal with and I have had a tank of 3-spine sticklebacks before . . . but not since I was 10.

Same here. It gets sucked into the filter and chewed up.

This, or what's called a "hypnopompic" experience. Usually when we wake up we don't notice the transition between sleep and waking, but occasionally we do. When this occurs there's an overlap of awareness between the dream state and the waking state, and it can cause some very unnerving...

Have just read right through and seen that you ARE having problems with aeration - hope you get it sorted out. You've done an excellent job of the set up though -really attractive and well thought out and put together.

I have to agree with Rocky re: the number /type of fish you have in here. They do look gorgeous, but the only reason they are "floaters" is they have nowhere to swim! If anything happens to your aeration system they could easily suffocate - especially with such a small surface area -...

I think the apparent deformity is due to distortion from the tank glass.

When you move this one it is very likely that two of the others will gang up on the third - please be alert for this happening. You may be lucky as it is a big aquarium, so if you plant it up more heavily (real plants) they may establish their own areas. However there's o guarantee of this.

Careful! He is "Scots" or "Scottish" - Scotch is an alcoholic drink. I just mention this because casual misuse of the term will result in hordes of woad-painted, claymore-wielding, kilted Scottish nationalists swimming the mighty ocean to tell you off about it! :lol:

Same here- but I have to admit that I wasn't as gorgeous as you to start off with. I have managed to convince myself that I still look like a slender girl of 17 in certain lights (ultra-violet, probably 😄)

If you get Armano shrimps they don't breed in the aquarium as they need very specific water parameters. They are brilliant! Absolute delight to watch. They have evenings when they go bananas in the tank and are spinning round like mad things. When you put their algae wafers in they obviously...

Yes - I wondered about the bleach, too. There was someone on here a few months ago looking for people to take some rabbit snails - they were gorgeous, but I thought I had enough in my tank at the moment. In retrospect, I wish I'd taken a few. They have lovely little faces.

Have to admit - I'm probably an over-feeder. I like rams horns (the big ones), but these are just irritating little pests and there are dozens of them! I have to have some surplus food, because I have two Nerites, and there is very little algae for them - also I have shrimp, so any surplus...

They are like a tiny ramshorn snail - brownish, flat. I did have a minor influx of bladder snails, too, but took them out and (luckily) must have managed to remove them before they started off laying. I rather like them, and keep them in a 4 gallon container in the garden. These other snails...

We are blessed (cursed?) with rapid snail growth already. I took 38 of the little buggers out of the tank yesterday and squashed them. 11 so far this morning. I could hire them out as "hit" snails, I suppose . . . :ninja:🤔
