plants in a juwel trigon 190

thanks Simon - I feel confident enough with what you've told me. I think I'll do what you have done and try buying a few varieties to see what works for my tank. Although I don't have undergravel heating, I do have the CO2 ladder and feed weekly. How long have you had you're plants in?

    Cory in a bad way

I've had similar problems with my cories - one minute they are fine, next they are on their last legs, fins, or whatever the fish evivalent is! All other fish in tank seemed well at the time. It's happend with 6 of my cories over the past year or so. All water stat's coming out spot on at the time.

plants in a juwel trigon 190

3 questions regarding my juwel trigon 190:- 1. With x2 20W bulbs with reflectors I reckon I'm getting 1.9 w / gallon of lighting. What plants can I grow with this relatively low light output? I've spoken to Juwel and they reckon I can grow ANY plant with this output. They placed alot of...

sama is dead, they killed her

i'm so glad you have a good sense of humour. After I posted that reply, I thought maybe it was a bit risky and I would be in for a damn good verbal thrashing! I'm afraid I don't have any useful info for you either. I've been keeping fish for a good while now, and now and again, for no apparent...

    T5 lights...MORE POWER needed!

seems an expensive way to add more light to an already expensive tank! Still, I guess there's no other way. What about these T5 tubes you mention? Can I use these in place of the crappy excuses for lights I have now?

    T5 lights...MORE POWER needed!

Hi Tiggs - I'm REALLY ineterested in what you have to say about you're Trigon 350. I have a Trigon 190 and just can't get enough light into the tank with the x2 18 watt tubes [even with reflectors] to grow the kind of plants that I want to. Did you have the same problem with the 350? What have...

tanks OK thanks Kitty -but could be better. I made the mistake of buying one of Takishi Amano's book's on aquascaping and I was hooked instantly! I now realise I probably have to have a complete clean out of my tank with new, nutrient rich substrate etc to half a chance of growing plants well...

    mythbuster please!

I did keep Arowana for a couple of years and heard the same tale about they only grow as big as their environment. HOWEVER, I also spent lots of time talking to a guy in Indonesia who bred Arowana and he gave me some advice which, when you think about it makes sense. Fish can only recognise the...

It's quite difficult to explain - but here goes............deep breath!!. If you're heading back out of Alsager towards Crewe you go past a pub called The Plough on you're left. You will come to a set of traffic lights. You want to go straight ahead here towards Crewe. Go past a Garden Centre on...

Not been to Ripples for a while although not far from where I live. I tend to use Oakhanger Aquatics in Alsager. Only a small family run business, but they have loads of exceptionally well maintained tanks and the fish are always in superb condition. Well worth a visit one weekend if you have...

    mixing flourite

I think I've settled on Flourite as a substrate for a planted display and I am thinking about mixing it with sand to keep the cost down. Does this impede the effectiveness of Flourite as a growth medium? What type of sand should I use and what mix ratio should go for?

    changing substrate in established tank

thanks simon - I think I've just been looking at a picture of you're tank after you have played around with CO2? Looks pretty good to me! That's what I want my tank to look like!!! What substrate did you go for?

    changing substrate in established tank

I've had a 42 gallon tank established for about 18 months now with a few plants and a happy stock of around 35 tetras and 6 corys. Problem is, I really want to plant heavily now after reading a few aquascaping / planting articles and I don't feel comfortable with the substrate I have in the tank...

    planting juwel trigon 190

I have a juwel trigon 190 for about 18 months and I'm really pleased with the appearance of the tank. However, now that I have started to look closely at aquascaping and adding more plants I'm concerned that the relatively low output of the unit [approx 2 watts / gallon] is going to restrict...
