I have this light and it's a really great light for the price. Out of the box, it is far too bright and is an algae growing machine. If you get the corresponding dimmer, you can dim the light. I've found that 50% brightness or so is the right number. Algae is no longer a problem either.

Whoa that JD is a tough one to sex. The best way is that females tend to have a lot more coloration around their gills and not as much on their body. Males don't have that "beard" but have much more on their body. That one has the coloration on the gills that would say female, but females...

I'm going with salvini as well. The color is a bit washed out. But body shape and pattern around the eye and body say salvini to me. They need a bigger tank. I'd say at least a 55, and more ideally larger since they are so mean.

They are one of my favorite fish, but they do get big so they need a big tank.

I'd highly advise against severum or peacock for this tank size. It's just far too small.

Python water changer would be great for 2 small tanks. I use the brute can on a dolly as mentioned above with a submersible pump and a hose ran to the sink to drain. Then I fill with the python sink adapter with a pvc hook that I made at the other end.
