    HELP!? Is she sick???

Okay, so I bought some crushed coral and put it in a bag inside the filter. I also added a very small amount of Flourish Equilibrium twice in these last two days. The other water parameters see checking out, so I'm going to contribute her condition to GH, or to the store/previous owner. I didn't...

    Greetings!

Hi everbody! I am here to learn about aquariums, and also to do my part to spread the knowledge I've accumulated. I don't have as much experience as many, but I have more experience than some. I currently have four tanks, all panted, ranging from low tech to high tech. I've had experiences and...

    HELP!? Is she sick???

Hi Collin, and thank you for your reply. I just checked water and here's what I found: pH: 8 Ammonia: <.25ppm Nitrates: about 5ppm KH: about 200 GH: somewhere between 0-30ppm...! The GH is a bit alarming. I didn't consider this before, but it's the only thing that's not within appropriate...

    HELP!? Is she sick???

I bought a pair of african peacocks last week, and I just noticed the female's fins look like there may be something wrong! I'm freaking out a bit, as I've never had a sick fish before. I need some help please! I looked at some threads about fin rot, and I'm afraid this may be that. Thanks for...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

I can see where the drip system could be impractical. My two 75s are less than ten feet from a sink. I should be able to split the waterline going to my fridge and route it to the tanks. As for drainage, however, I'm not really sure what I would do. Maybe put a sealed lid on a 3 gallon bucket...

    Plexiglass Tank Cover

Hi all, I'm very interested in getting some sort of non-glass cover, because I want to cut holes for a fish bridge (if you're not familiar, it's shown below). It's basically a tube going over the tank that allows water to pass through (AND FISH!!! :fish::fun:). This would be beneficial for a...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

I get it... I just thought 20-30 was a relatively safe range... I did WCs on all 3 tanks yesterday (15-20%). I'll continue to do it every week, for peace of mind if nothing else. I want happy fish :) And yes... bucket brigade... it sucks! lol But i'll get a hose/"python" this week. What is the...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

I have a co2 tank and reactor hiding. No diffusers because it combines w/ water inline. I didn't know that it was harmful to fish... Maybe I should just convert to all plants/no fish in that tank. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy fish, but plants were the entire purpose of that tank :/ Less...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

Okay, thank you. So assuming nitrates aren’t great for fish and ammonia is worse... and plants favor ammonia over nitrates, How do you suggest making them both happy living together? Are there any particular articles or threads you could suggest? (This isn’t the thread for that discussion) Thanks

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

Okay folks, I'm going to post once more, and be done with this thread. It's starting to frustrate me. I'm not a fish biologist, so I won't promote my methods as totally proper or an answer to nitrates, nor will I speak for anyone but myself. Furthermore, I am totally comfortable keeping my...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

Thanks for the welcome. Mike, I appreciate the post, but must say you freaked me out a bit. I immediately dropped my botany homework and ran to my LFS to get two new water test kits (spent like 50$, but that's beside the point -- I'll use them all eventually). jThe whole time, I'm like "Oh god...

    Reducing Nitrate Without Water Changes

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, and I hope it's okay digging up a thread from years ago (if not, sorry in advance). This is literally my first post. The topic seems important to hobbyists and quite misunderstood to many. I think I have some valid comments with regard to aquarium plants and...
