    Unexpected babies

Awesome! I'd probably just stick to 3. I was told you need three to have them school and it's about an inch of fish per gallon. I'll have to make sure they are all males before I leave the store or I'll have the same problem.

    Unexpected babies

It is! I guess from now on I need to ask them for specific genders. I could separate the one male and get all females after this but I've read that often times the ones you get from pet stores are pregnant. My kids like the babies so a few aren't so bad but I definitely don't want as many as...

    Unexpected babies

So based on that looks like I have one male and three females.

Thanks! That's actually way more helpful than most of the pictures I've found.

    Unexpected babies

Thanks! I got a breeder net or whatever it's called. So they are separated now. I have three left as well. I honestly have no idea if I have a male. I've looked at the thread and other pictures online but I can't tell the difference. Hopefully she is done for now.

    Unexpected babies

I think I know which one was pregnant. I've included pictures of two of them. But my question is, is she still pregnant? I read that they will drop around 12+ fry. I think most of mine got eaten since I didn't know she was pregnant. Is it possible she's not done? How long is the process? I'm...

    Unexpected babies

I'd like to keep these if I can. We're new and lost a bunch of our fish to inexperience and these guys are so cute. I haven't pointed them out to my kids yet because I don't want them to be sad if they are eaten. Can I place them in a smaller tank using the same water? Would a run of the mill...

    Unexpected babies

I have some unexpected babies in a tank that I didn't cycle so I'm trying to fix that (inexperience, there's separate older post about that). I don't know what to do with the babies. They are hiding in the duck weed right now. I didn't know I had a pregnant fish. Since I noticed them last night...

    New tank, new to fish

We lost one more even though the water is still testing fine. But now I have another mystery. There's a baby fish (fry?) in my duck weed. I don't see any others and I'm pretty sure I didn't have any pregnant fish. Also a random baby snail I think. Do I just hope it makes it?

    New tank, new to fish

Just a quick update. We still have 5 of the fishes! Checking the water every day and changing if it's anywhere above 0 on ammonia and nitrite. I will say that I bought some Biodigest. It's supposed to help drastically with the bacteria colonization and I think it's really making a big...

    New tank, new to fish

Ok, we got some duck weed. Last question for now, can I leave the fish in the tank? With so many water changes, I'm worried catching them will stress them more.

    New tank, new to fish

I called the city and they don't know that info but someone is going to pull some labs and get it to me Monday. I guess that's the good and bad thing about small municipalities. They did confirm that we use treated groundwater. I have a "moss ball". Should I get more of those? Which floating...

    New tank, new to fish

I honestly hope I can keep them alive through the process. I'm definitely going to try. I looked on the city website and there is no mention of either of those measurements. Only EPA regulated contaminants. If I can get all the fish through this hopefully they will start to thrive. I read the...

    New tank, new to fish

Firstly, I'm apologize that I didn't do the right research before getting my fish. Now I just want to be the best fish caretaker I can. We got a 20 gallon freshwater tank on Saturday. Treated it with conditioner and bacteria starter per pet store. Let it cycle for 24 hrs and then added 9 fish...

    Molly Fish Shaking

I'm at the pet store, the only one close to me is PetSmart, and they have something called proper pH 8.2 by API. I'm also getting the full test kit as I didn't have the water with me and I want to be able to test on my own in the future anyway. Is the proper pH stuff something that would work if...

    Molly Fish Shaking

Thank you. We lost another fish overnight so now I'm very worried. I will get the water tested asap. Wish it wasn't the middle of the week. I did further reading in the threads last night and I'm pretty sure all the fish are showing various signs of stress. After I get the results, I'll start a...

Can someone tell me the correct amount of sodium bicarbonate to add to a 20 gallon tank to correct the pH for the mollies? We just got a tank and 9 mollies/platys four days ago. One died today and now another one is doing the shaking thing. It's neutral right now. I know this is an old thread.
