    Future Species from Invasive fish

It's already been said: They'll evolve into a new species or remain the same species but differ in phenotype. Too many of you the last remark may seem weird how I put t but keep in mind that phenotype can be different from genotype.

    What are you doing today?

Just finished labeling all small containers where my livebearers will be put in at the Vivarium 2024 this coming weekend. It's a time consuming task to label all these containers. In fact, I'm done doing all the preps. Only catching those fish should still happen. That's a task for this Friday...

    Gambusia rhizophorae; Mangrove Mosquitofish

I do like the body shape better than those from other Gambusia species. As most members overhere already know, I'm a huge fan of wild livebearer species. This is also why most of my livebearers at my place are wild species.

Wild Xiphophorus maculatus, Rio San Pedro

They've adapted quite well, tbh. Yes, some did die within the first two weeks. Those were a bit bigger. That's why I generally go for the young specimens. Young ones adapt faster to new conditions. And they have a better survival rate coming from the wild. Granted... I've got platies from other...

Wild Xiphophorus maculatus, Rio San Pedro

This year I've been on a trip to Mexico again. And I've brought back platies from multiple locations. Overhere some pictures of self caught wild maculatus platies which I've caught at a spot of the San Pedro river close to the city of Balacán, Tobasco in Mexico back in July this year. I brought...

Help! Female Guppy’s tail is turning black!

Nigrocaudatus (dark based body color) female guppies mostly have dark fins. The intensity of the dark fins differ per individual specimen. But when they have mood swings the intensity in the color of the fins can change.

For those aren't offered that much till even none through retail. First of all you need to know that within the Poeciliidae family are livearers and egglayers. The egglayers are all killifish. In the past, it was thought that multiple livebearers found in the wild were similar to killifish...

It's correct that the first one is a tuxedo red swordtail female and he one is pic#2 is a nigrocaudatus male platy Well, a lot of platy strains or even species can grow up large if the conditions are right. Just look at mine... Not all platies are slender. For sure platies from the...

Ginga rubra guppies... Grey bodied... Fyi, Ginga rubras are guppies and no endlers. Unfortunately, the commercial trade has labeled them as being endler or even endler hybrids. This is an incorrect information. The creator of this strain is Kenjiro Tanaka and he has told in the past that a wild...

Anyone ever seen a guppy with a tail like this?

Most of them. Crown tail guppies however are a result of the past few years. Well, phenotypically it's more a fancy guppy rather than an endler. But for sure, he's not a pure endler anyways.

Anyone ever seen a guppy with a tail like this?

Well, we don't know the genetic background of him and his brother. If both came from a mix, the genetic background of both parents are in play. This specific male has the swallow gene by one of his parents and his brother is just lacking this gene or he carries it recessively. Swallow guppies...

Your male is a socalled swallow guppy. That's different from a crowntail guppy. Well. I won't buy me new fish until the weekend of November 23rd/24th. Then I'll be partpating the Vivarium 2024. I've been busy today with labeling the small containers which I'll use to offer my livebearers. Also...
