    Planted 29G Biocube

So, just for comparison, it looks like my Java Ferns are taking off... the rest of the plants aren't showing too much growth, but the good news is that they're still alive.     And the cool news is that I discovered my female CPO Dwarf Crayfish berried this morning. We'll see if I can manage to...

    A Very Disturbing Discover...

Years ago my snowflake moray went missing. Looked everywhere, couldn't find him until a month later he turned up, curled up into a perfect disc, under a couch a dozen feet away. Poor guy.

Thanks! I still have to fill in the foreground a bit, but I'll wait and see if I can keep the plants I already have in there alive for a while first...

Any luck with the breeding? I have two CPO's myself and just saw them mating this morning.

    Chiller Recommendations?

Baccus, thanks... makes sense. I'm hoping to bring it down to at least 79F, that's four degrees.   Munroco, I did search the topic but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I'll keep digging...

    Chiller Recommendations?

Hi all,   I was hoping a few of you might have a recommendation for a chiller for me... I have a 29-gallon cube tank with an integrated hood (lights are mounted inside of it) so keeping the hood open to cool the water isn't much of an option (I also have a cat who would LOVE to go fishing if...

What Are Literally The Most Hardy Plants You Can Get?

I just wanted to thank everyone who added to this thread... With your advice this inept Aqua-gardener has now planted his tank with Java fern, anubias, Java moss, jungle Val, moneywort and Amazon swords. :)

    Planted 29G Biocube

Still having a hard time kicking the white cloudiness (I'm still 99% sure it's a bacterial bloom), so last night I did a 75% water change, a thorough vacuuming of the sand, and I got rid of almost all of my plants, most of which weren't faring too well. I'd planting species that were a little...

    Planted 29G Biocube

The CPO crayfish arrived, and after acclimation they were right at home. It took less than a minute after I put them in the tank for both of them to start sifting through the sand and cleaning the place up.   I'd requested one male and one female, which is just what I got, but I was a little...

Yeah, the CPO dwarf crayfish are great... they typically won't destroy your plants, they tend to leave your fish and other inverts alone, and they're pretty easy to breed too. They'll keep your substrate clean and eat just about anything, and they're not nocturnal like most crayfish. I'll let...

    Planted 29G Biocube

Thanks! I definitely want to keep it as simple and natural as I can, but I'm also looking forward to having those plants start to fill out. I have two CPO dwarf crayfish coming (hopefully) this week that should be a nice addition too..

I swapped out the fourite gravel with sand the night before last, and the water has cleared up pretty well for now, so I figured I'd take a picture while I can. June 20, 2015:

    Flourite Vs Sand

Made the switch last night... it could have been a major project but I was *just* smart enough to write down the process step by step so I wouldn't be be surprised by not having enough buckets or some other detail. It went pretty smoothly, all in all.   The tank looks great (I'll post an updated...

    Flourite Vs Sand

I grabbed a 50-pound bag of play sand at Home Depot and lugged it home on the train. Sore arms, but ready to make the switch tomorrow night... Thanks for the help, everyone.

So here's the tank... I was really hoping to come home and see clear water, but it seems today was not the day.   And I somehow managed to get a good shot of one of my Black Phantoms, so what the heck:

I started this tank about six weeks ago, but due to a marathon bacterial bloom pictures were pretty useless until yesterday. And even still, it looks pretty cloudy. I'm looking forward to using this thread to keep track of the tank's growth and whatever changes I'm in for.   My wife recently got...

    Flourite Vs Sand

Thanks... hopefully I'll make the change this weekend. My only problem is I live in the city and buying a 50-lb bag of sand isn't as simple as throwing it in your car and driving home. I'll have to cough up the cash for a taxi unless I want to carry it on the bus for half an hour.   Still, given...

    Flourite Vs Sand

Hi all...   I've looked through the forum but haven't found a definitive answer. I have a moderately-planted 29-gallon Biocube that's been up and running for about six weeks. When I first set it up, my LFS sent me home with flourite substrate, but I'm now thinking I'd prefer sand instead.   Is...
