    Activated Carbon And Plant Ferts

I keep the carbon in mine and just turn my filter off for 4 or 5 hours after dosing to give the plants some time to uptake at least some of the nutrients. Probably is not enough time but they are still green and growing well, in some cases propagating themselves too well so I guess it must be...

Well, It's Certainly Big... What Would You Do With A 6X2X2?

It is possible to keep plants with geos if you use pots, personally I just use plants that can grow off the bogwood, driftwood etc... and leave the substrate free for the geos to sift. Having said that I do have one large plant that has managed to survive rooted into the sand, occasionally the...

Well, It's Certainly Big... What Would You Do With A 6X2X2?

Geos also do the aquascaping in your tank for free, whether you want them to or not. My two biggest males always try to fill each others excavations in, much to the others bemusement as the pile of sand they are trying to shift never gets any smaller. Annoying for them but funny to watch.

    Question About Bogwood

I actually had a closer look at my tank and there are a few pieces of bogwood debris, in my case it is probably my bristlenose plec clambering all over it that is knocking small pieces off. Although, occasionally my Red Tail Black Shark will flash / rub against objects, this too may be knocking...

Well, It's Certainly Big... What Would You Do With A 6X2X2?

Depending on what part of the tank you want the bigger fish and how much space for additional fish there is; Eartheaters, could be nice if you want something biggish and peaceful (most but not all) for the bottom third of the tank. There are quite a few different species from 5" to 10"+.     I...

Best Time To Buy Fish From The Fish Shop - Feel Free To Disagree

Found this out purely by accident although in some ways I suppose it was kind of obvious but the best time of day to buy fish from the fish shop, in my opinion anyway, is just after the fish have been fed. In my LFS, as in the case of many I suspect, this means going first thing in the morning...

    Question About Bogwood

I have quite a lot of bogwood in both my tanks but have never noticed any of it fragmenting. There are some plecos and panaques that would digest a certain amount of wood through scraping the microflora etc... but I am not sure if any of this would lead to much debris being created. Assuming you...

    Not Cycling A Tank?

I used plants while cycling both my tanks, the second one also benefiting from some filter media seeded from the first tank. I chose to cycle my tanks with a small number of fish present, lots and lots of plants and frequent water changes.   From my understanding (only been doing this properly...

What Was The Fish That First Got You Into Fish Keeping?

Hard not to like Tiger Barbs, I think they are definitely a fish I will want to keep in at least one of my tanks.

    75 Gallon Jds? Pictus? Plants?

I have never kept any Green Terrors, the only one of those fish you have listed that I have kept would be the Red Tailed Black Shark. I have done a bit of research into the terrors though as it is a fish I would like to keep at some stage. From what information I have gathered much of the...

    75 Gallon Jds? Pictus? Plants?

I like Synodontis cats, although I still have not gotten around to getting any yet myself so cannot say too much on how hard they are to keep. They seem to be pretty active though anytime I have seen them in the LFS, so they may add some activity to the bottom of your tank. I like S. granulosus...

What Was The Fish That First Got You Into Fish Keeping?

Hoping to get some of them when I finally get a tank big enough for some Clown Loaches. Very nice fish. I always wondered what they were when I seen them in one of my LFS display tanks. They are a very pretty fish.

    Exo Sceleton Of Shrimp

First time I seen one of those I thought one of mine had died too. Thankfully it is just the moulted exoskeleton. If you keep it in the tank you will see the other shrimp eat it to reassimilate the minerals, waste not want not and all that.

What Was The Fish That First Got You Into Fish Keeping?

Most people probably have a particular fish that really triggered their interest in fish keeping, whether it was their grandmothers 15 year old goldfish or some giant Arowana they seen as a kid (even a small one seemed giant when you were about 10) in their local fish shop. For me there were a...

Heaters Never Work! Or Do They?

The water in my tank often feels cold too, although it is only set for 77 so it is not necessarily anything to worry about. Although as everyone has suggested here getting a thermometer will give you some peace of mind and also notify you should the heater become faulty. If it is faulty remember...

    Hard Water Fish

African cichlids and Synodontis catfish do well in hard water. I have never kept any but I am guessing plenty of other people on here have. If not, check out KG Tropicals on Youtube, they are an African cichlid specialist fish store that post loads of videos on the subject.

    New Member Introduction

Hi everyone   I am new to this forum although not entirely new to fish keeping having been in the hobby for just over two years now. I currently have two tanks, both freshwater planted tanks. Not planted in the serious sense, just simple gravel and sand substrates.   Tank number 1 is a Fluval...
