Hey guys!! Just a quick update on my tank..I had originally dosed my tank with ammonia on 3/26. Just this morning did it come down low enough to dose it back up. Current nitrite readings are over 5 PPM now. My cycle is finally making some good progress!!!!

What do you guys think of adding some Purigen to my filters once the cycle is complete? Was thinking of using the AC pad at the back of the filter and then using the grey tray in front to house the Purigen. Thoughts?

  OMG! I just figured out today how to turn off the white LEDs and leave the colored on. I can make the tank all colors from red, blue, pink, purple, green, and anything else I want. So cool!

Ran up to Petsmart and they exchanged the filter without a problem. Got it setup and added my ammonia!!   Tank has officially started the cycle!

Well...yesterday was exciting. All of my equipment came, but unfortunately one of my filters isn't working. I need to call Marineland today and see what I can do to get it fixed; hopefully they'll tell me to take it up to my LFS and swap it out. I did get my other filter going, plus both...

  I may add 1 or 2 live plants some time in the future, but definitely not right away.

It's about 3" total...but I won't be doing live plants.

Just a quick update; I got all my sand rinsed and added to the tank along with getting it filled!! It's starting to come together!! These won't be the lights I'll be using, but I wanted to see how it looked with some kind of light. I'm very surprised how clear it is after just about 20...

That is a Giant Danio if you're referring to the big silver one.

I've always used the API Mast Test Kit and never had any issues. You'll find that a lot of people use this kit as well.

You could maybe get away with a pair of Angels.

What is your temperature set at?

I'm getting closer to getting this tank setup!! Just placed my order to get my filters, heaters, test kits, etc!! Can't wait to get them!

 Ok...so:   12 Cardinal Tetras 8 Pristella Tetras 10 Rummy Nose Tetras 6 Zebra Danios 6 Cory's 1 Pleco   If I need to drop some fish, I could go without the Danios...but all of these fish are relatively small and don't get very big with the exception of the Pleco.

OMG...what a total debacle to get all of this sorted out. 3 calls later I finally got it worked out and they are now sending me the 48"-60" light.

  That makes total sense. It's a 36" light...but extends out to 48". I'll have to call and get it switched out...hopefully they haven't shipped yet lol.

  That is quite high. I would do a 50% water change as soon as possible to bring the nitrates down.

Have you tested the water parameters recently? My first thought is that you're having a bacteria bloom...which could be from the algae outbreak?

  Your tank is 48" across right? What size light did you end up getting? I got the one that extends up to 48"...I hope it will be enough to light the whole tank.

  I certainly did, plus a few others, and this was definitely the best light for the money. Plus I was able to get 20% from Petco and use some gift cards that I had...so it made the deal even better. I'm really glad you like yours; I can't wait to get mine and get it setup!

Well...just bought the Satellite LED Plus lighting system for my tank!!   Anyone on here have this system? What are your thoughts?

That's ok...gives me the chance to do more research :)   Guess that's a good thing because you know when to top off haha. I'm going to fill it again soon and let it sit for a couple days and see if that helps. Otherwise I think it'll be OK.

  Thank you so much!!   That's what I was thinking. I filled it with water to do the leak test, but that was before I added the shims. I may fill it one more time and let it sit overnight and see what happens. I feel like I read somewhere that it doesn't have to be perfect...just close because...

  One may be set a bit higher than the other because it'll be submerged deeper in the tank than the other one.   To update everyone, I got a bit of work done today in preparation for all the equipment. I also realized I haven't uploaded any pictures and what's a build thread without pictures...
