I've been using the filter for around 3 months I'd say...
Never thought about cleaning out the pipes, good shout!
hobby5, I've always been told to turn off the filter when doing a water change or gravel clean, i'd still end up in the same boat of having to turn the filter off and on again.
...
Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I will give it a full clean out over the weekend, i hold up a very fine mesh net in front of the two outlets when i turn it on to catch as much as I can but loads still manages to get out, very demoralising seeing everything revert back to nearly how it was...
Evening all,
Just a quick question, hopefully a straightforward one...!
I've got a Fluval G3 external filter and whenever I do one of the scheduled filter cleans (it has a total of 3) I give the bottom of the tank a quick syphon to pick up as much detritus as I can. This is all standard so...
I've had this before with an artificial tree stump and roots type thing, it took out all my cory's and a platy as they'd try and swim through it, get stuck and die.
Ended up covering the holes they'd swim down with a fine mesh.
So not the same situation as yours but still an Ornament of...
I did the same last weekend, changed from multicoloured gravel to black gravel... Definitely take the fish out of the tank, the water gets incredibly cloudy and surely cannot be good for the fish. I bought 2 flexible rubber buckets and had them in there for a few hours while I was doing the...
So I rescaped the tank today, most of the gravel was replaced and real plants and slate were added, along with the bogwood.
Which just floats.
Is there anything I can do to tether it down, I've had it soaking in a bin since Wednesday.
Cheers,
Indy
Morning,
I bought a 2ft piece of bogwood from ebay and have had it soaking in a plastic bin for just over a day.
Its in normal tapwater at the moment, should I put in some water conditioner or will it be ok to take out and put in the tank tomorrow (when I'm planning to do my rescape)?
...
Update: I gave in and bought the G3 today! Took about 45 minutes to set up, really clear instructions and dead straightforward to do.
I chickened out with taking out the existing filters so have all 3 going at once, some if the fish are loving getting pushed around by the new flow, almost...
I've read that the G3 allows for any hard media to be placed in it so that could be an idea, open the two hard media canisters in the U3 and U4 and use those.
If that doesn't end up being an option, what would I need to check to ensure the new filter has been cycled enough? Standard...
Hallo,
As per a previous topic I had I'm looking to rescape my tank soonish. I've got a Fluval Roma 200 and am currently running a U3 and a U4 filter in tandem. I want to get an external filter prior to the tank work and have my eye on a Fluval G3.
My question is, once I get the G3 how long...
I'm in the same boat as well, bought an Apple snail and the first night laid a load of eggs.
Been about 2 weeks now, how long do they take to hatch?
Cheers,
Indy
One other thing...
I currently have two filters in there, a Fluval U3 and U4. I always wanted to eventually upgrade to an external filter, something like a Fluval 306.
The question is would it be worth doing the filter change at the same time as the rescape? I'm thinking it may be a case of...
Yeh I think I will take out about 80% of the gravel and get black sand, seen some pics of people's tanks with that and rocks/slate/greenery really pops out, looks great!
Thanks for the reply, it looks like everythig can happen that I want and all I need to do now is buy some extra buckets and decide what I want to do with the tank, the easy part (!)
Cheers,
Indy
Hallo,
After a lot of deliberation and being incredibly impressed by some of the tanks on here I've decided that I need to rescape my 200L tank as it looks a bit pants. Currently it has about 2-3" of mixed gravel, 3 resin ornaments (including obligatory pirate ship) and a bright blue...
One of my Zebra Danios who has been named 'Chief'... the biggest of the group of 3, most colourful and definitely the leader of the pack... never stops zooming about the tank, bit of a bully but entertaining to watch!!!
I often wonder if you can have too much filtration too, currently I have Fluval Roma 200 with a Fluval U3 and U4 in there.
The reason for two is that I migrated from a smaller tank to the Roma and the U3 was from the old tank and U4 was the new one, have them running side by side.
Is that...
Unfortunately I don't know anyone with the kit, I might take a sample of the water and take it to shop A and see if they can check for me. I have decided to forgo shop B from now on, its just not worth the risk of loss of life for the fish. I will be speaking with them to see if I can find out...
I'm not sure what the Drip Method is but here's my usual routine:
1) Open the bag and put it in the tank, lights off.
2) 15 minutes or so later, I'll add a cup of the tank water into the bag.
3) 15 minutes or so after that, I'll add another cup of water.
4) 5-10 minutes after that, I'll grab...
I have an API Master test kit that I inherited but I may buy a new one just to be safe, see if I can get the additional bits for the GH and KH.
I add a water conditioner when I do a water change as per standard but our tapwater is pretty hard in the area, would it be worth adding some sort of...
I got 2 x Silver Sharks, 2 x Plecos and 2 x Denisoni Barbs on the day, my tank is a little bit overstocked at the moment though.
Nitrites and Ammonia are 0, Nitrate is about 20 and from what I've read is pretty standard.
No fish look ill, no white spots or anything like that.
Im pretty...
Hi Sophie,
A is about 25 minutes, B is about 35-40 minutes straight drive home. pH could be an issue, I think mines around 7.4 from memory but I'll do another test tonight before I call em to get their opinion.
What is GH and KH?
Cheers,
Indy
Hallo,
Bear with me on this one, its quite an out there theory.
I buy my fish primarily from two local aquatics centres, for the sake of objectivity lets call them A and B.
90% of my stock were from A, I have lost a few fish from them initially when I first set the tank up but besides then...
Didn't make it... And then for some reason a Pleco died too ;(
Did a 40% water change last night and took out a piece of bogwood I had in there, might take everything out and just start again, more rocks rather than fake plants...
Cheers,
Indy
I feel well guilty about the neon tetra, i originally had 6 but as they were so small most of em got barged to death during feeding time when there was a wild frenzy...
One of my silver sharks looks like its not gonna last the day...
Hello,
Have made a few posts already but have just seen this bit...
Names Indy and I have had my tropical tank setup since February. I have changed tank once so far to a bigger one, a Fluval Roma 200, currently occupied by 33 fish:
5 x White Cloud Mountain Minnow
3 x Zebra Danio
1 x...
I bought two at the same time, the others as happy as Larry at the moment. It was definitely stuck in the plant, all I could see was its tail near the bottom but maybe it just floated there and got tangled, can't say for sure.
Will give him checks over the next few hours and see if he's...
Hi,
Thanks for that, I've attached what I think is a breeding trap lol, its a plastic floating box with slits on the sides and bottom (I've attached a pic) to confirm.
I could put him in back in the tank, there's nothing in there that attacks him so he should be safe, I figured keeping him...
Hallo,
Done my daily morning (9am) check on the tanks numbers and I noticed one of my Silver Sharks caught in a fake plant. No idea how long he had been in there.
Managed to untangle him, catch him in a net and stick him in a breeding trap by himself with some food but he's not looking too...
